So we can't afford to give them any apprenticeships/skills training Dombo, but we can afford to house them, clothe them, feed them, and arm them, for a couple of years ? :D

Bo my point was that obviously my sister is not responsible for any terrorist activities, and so called repression of minorities as Snoop put it does not excuse you from behaving stupidly.

Marco's blackberry point is where its at.

Are we too worried or scared even to admit that society has unknowingly fostered a part of itself with weak morals and liable to callous behaviour?

[quote="Bo-Gilly"][quote]Lets try again

What are trying to do.......change my mind ? :D

Have a look at this graph again Paul, and explain to me why Britain's youth have suddenly and dramatically, become lazy work-shy spongers in the last three years.

I replied to your post about youth unemployment already but it was deleted.

I agree with you about apprenticeships but cannot say anymore due to censoreship. I doubt these kids would be interested in doing them anyway.

There are low skilled jobs out there but the only people who want to do them are EU migrants.

[quote]In Croydon , the ‘Jobcentre Plus’ in Dingwall Road is extremely busy, with over 500 people seeking job opportunities every day. A Jobcentre manager, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “There are many problems here, particularly for young people. But it’s also a question of mindset: the youngsters are often less flexible than older clients. Many are simply not interested in taking some of the jobs available.”

Oh deary me. I wonder what the adults around me thought of my chances of even surviving in a world when at three, I began the six years of WW2. :( Grew up, through my schooldays in Moss Side, Manchester - heard of its reputation? Then moved to the stability of the East End; the Krays lived just down the road.
Point of this? There is NO validity whatever in using your background as an excuse for what is pure, mindless criminality (well, maybe I'll now admit to scrumping the odd apple as a kid ...)
I know Andrew's friend that he describes so vividly as forcefully refusing to use an underprivileged background as any excuse. He is doing well for himself now, and I have the greatest admiration for him.
Anyway, to a short-term solution to avoiding the gormless criminality of recent days. Just come out on Marco's famed Wednesday ride tomorrow (nearly today). I guarantee complete serenity and safety in the regions of North Downs, Tatsfield, Pilgrims Way, and Downe. Top cakes at the cafe there, too.

Just heard on the news that some cities have public patrols this evening especially around areas where there is a strong community spirit (e.g. religious buildings, etc). I'd had the same idea myself - mobilise en masse, avoid the temptation to steal a new telly and stop troublemakers till the police arrive. Positive action....

Anyone know of anything going on in Croydon?

[quote="marco"]I don't think teaching 'them' how to shoot straight and learn unarmed combat will really help.

National service is not just about giving them arms and teaching them to fight!!

I did 2 years national service in a period of transition in South Africa (Another whole discussion there)
But my personnel experience of national service and I’ve also spoken to a lot of colleagues from European countries that still have national service as well as having friends from Israel and the general consensus is that national service was a good thing for us. This is mainly in terms of learning to have respect for authority (however this starts from school and I’m afraid to say that is not the case in many of the schools in the UK now) Also respect for fellow human beings and learning to have pride in one’s self and ones country no matter what your ethnic or religious background. In lots of countries training in a trade or skill is offered in national service. Now there is the argument when doing national service these kids could be taken off to war, but overall I would say this wouldn’t be a bad thing.

...a very eloquent and angry lady on telly last night referred to these people as feral rats. She went on to ask why are parents allowing their kids to roam the streets and cause mayhem. Before community responsibility comes parental responsibility.

No but discipline and a trade would help.

We send them to school but they somehow manage to emerge after 10 years as unable to read or write because it's "cool". Perhaps if they didn't spend that time f***ing about and wasting everybody's time they'd get some qualifications and find it easier to get a job.

And education isn't even that hard, regardless of how bad a school is, GCSEs are easier enough to pass and A-Levels too, can't blame it on bullying and disruption, that's part of every school in the country.

Couldn't agree more, and I still have my Physics A Level Paper from 1981 to prove it!

100% agree with Rob Q's observations about National Service. I'd add that most of my 2 years was good fun too. Also that I did learn to shoot straight, to the degree that I earned a Marksman badge. Could come in useful, with a bit of brushing up, if things continue there downward trend ...
