How do we establish our placings in the general scheme of things? On the Raceahead site, you can only view 500 names at a time, and it gives the impression that exactly 1,000 people rode each long route, unless I'm reading it wrong. For some reason I can't use Excel at work (prob cos I don't do the math  ), which would make things a lot easier. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Bwlch - the sound you make as you barf up a warm, sweat-seasoned ham sarny at the top of Rhigos.

Gentlemen's Dragon - great ride.

Weather cleared at the off, fast ride to Port Talbot in a bunch with a couple of Agreeables - sorry don't know the names - then lost them as the road kicked up under M4 for the first climb.
Nice and steady towards Afan, Cimmer, Glyncorrwg (fantastic mtb centre btw), amazed at the speed some were going this early on the first climb.

Caught and passed a fair few riders but gave them all back when I stopped for a banana and water refill at the base of Bwlch. Re-caught some on the steady climb, spinning in the middle ring and glad of the psychological boost of having a triple. Fast descent before Rhigos climb, then Neath and a ridiculous climb out of that town. Decision time at the 40 mile mark, right to SAS Selection country or left. Chose left, and a nice fast run back down the valley, amazed at being caught by a fair few riders I'd dropped on Rhigos.

Second climb of Bwlch less pleasant and a lot slower. No banter and lower gears, spinning up it in the granny ring, HR 160 but still passing a fair few. Quick grimace for photographer at the top, and I'm passed by two ladies, chatting away, barely noticing the gradient. I change up, out the saddle and give chase, hoping to catch a tow. Ha! Fat chance. One of them was Vlaanderen pro rider Emma Davies-Jones whom I naturally never saw again.

Fast descent back down the valley, dodging sheep, and on to Bridgend, with the worse climb of the day a little ramp over a common 3 miles from the end. An absolute killer.

Rolled over the final mat to a welcome bleep, a round of applause and a goody bag.

Oh joy. Blueberry Go Gel, my favourite.

      Sorry Adrian I've been up since 6am. I've written two school observation reports, responded to eight emails, cleaned my bike, ate 3 slices of toast, convinced a distraught mother that a diagnosis of Autism isn't quite the end of the world, lied to a Spanish friend that the weather over here ain't that bad, finished off some rice and chicken from last night, drunk half a carton of cranberry juice, washed loads of clothes, spoke to my Clinical Manager about a possible abuse case, read the last ten pages of WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, watched Big brother highlights and now I'm in the middle of another report. I might turn the lap top off in half an hour. Perhaps I better go and sort out the garden cause I'm getting bored :(
