I thought it would be a good idea to resurrect a traditonal winter club event - a freewheel competition, and bought some zip ties, chalk and a clipboard. 19 fellow agreeables had their cranks strapped up (thanks Grahame for extra straps) or chains removed and sent down Russ Hill....great fun was had by all...

What a weird sensation - sitting on a bike with nothing to do except hope...not seeing anyone round the last bend and slowing down rapidly, my heart sank, and then coming to a stop way short of the others - disc wheels are rubbish (official).

The winner was Grahame Baker - he (and Peter Smith) surpassed everyone by getting back to the cafe where he was busily refuelling - in training for next years event.
