I tried to order an American copy from a well known online retailer's US site. They chickened out and sent one from their UK site claiming they were out of stock in the US :(

I have a sneaking suspicion that Wiggo was doped at the 2009 TdF when he came 4th ... thoughts anyone?

Surely he did it at some stage in his career .... I wonder why no one is talking about this :?: :!: :|

Well, who'd have thought it?

On a serious note, my sincere apologies again to Marco and anyone else I've argued with in defence of this lying, doped-up drug-monkey. That's a very large slice of cake I owe you, Marco.

At least "It's Not About the Bike" makes good cat litter.

I had to take an angle grinder to my Jim'll Fix it badge.

There's no evidence that JS ever doped when he raced bikes.

of course armstrong was a doper...he did whatever it took to win...in that sense he was just being the most professional pro cyclist of the era...the thing that really sticks in the throat is f**king pat mcquaid still claiming the uci have no role in anything and nothing to investigate...

if you haven't already then i highly recommend reading the 'reasoned decision' document from usada..ok it's 200 pages but they are double spaced...and there are all sorts of extras if you go to the appendices and supporting materials tab...including the interview above...the whole thing stinks.

[quote="marco"]Cheers Dombo, i can appreciate how you feel, there was a period in my life where he was an inspiration to me and people close to me as well, it's painful to have that suddenly pulled away whether it was back years ago or this month.

Re JohnG's question - National pride comes into it, with Lance all the signs were there but people chose to look away.
Dodgy doctors, miracle performances, team mates riding out of their skin better than they ever did on EPO at other teams, dodgy DS, sudden weight loss with no loss of power, attacking the doubters, shady coaches. It just depends how closely you want to look at these things. When it's someone we want to identify with, the answer is often 'not too closely'.

hmmm OK, so has Wiggo cheated in the past in your opinion? (Maybe not now BUT in the past!)

I was geeting a little, ok alot bored with this thread however I must disagre with the statement he was the most professional of his era for chaeating. I think that would mean he misrepresented the word professional which to the ones that didn't dope means doing everything they can do to win so long as it is legal and moral. He disgregarded both.

I cannot like millions of others, including those within the pro ranks and other professional sports stars, dislike him or not still have some admiration for his achievements. This is because throughout professional sport there is chaeting whether using PEDs or stealing someones car designs or running someone off the track. That's just in sports. Sports probably reflect life as a whole.

The rewards for doping contnue to far outway the penalties so if you are morally bereft and not quite good enough it's worth it..... isn't it?

don't get me wrong man, in no way do i support armstrong's approach to pro racing...but it is a sad fact that winning seemed impossible without dope in the era pre-armstrong, armstrong, and post-armstrong to some degree. the real shame is that athletes were forced to make a choice to dope and win or not dope and not win (nicho roche is probably a case in point). the uci is responsible for putting athletes in this position. i'm not saying athletes have any right to cry foul..they made their beds..but i am saying that the problem stretched way higher than the athletes themselves and if the world is demanding the athletes come clean then it's only right that the uci also come clean.

to be clear...armstrong was wrong to do what he did. but the uci was equally as culpable.

nicho roche does raise the point that guys who come clean about doping get more pats on the back than the guys who have remained clean their whole careers...which is more than unfair...but it also seems like he is saying he has known for years that doping was prevalent...and it seems his response was the same as everyone else in the peloton...a shrug of the shoulders..'what can we do?'....things got so bad because of this attitude...basson tried and failed in 1999 to raise awareness of what was going on...and everyone looked the other way...i wonder what would have happened if more pro's had had the backbone to ride with him into that storm...
