New bike deals for a bike-to-work

Postby Andrew G » Thu Oct 15, 2009 8:57 am

Screaming "bike to work scheme" as they are all £999 Boardman are releasing some special edition bikes - here.

Keith (Sonic) rates his road bike and George liked his MTB from them, good VFM apparently.

Ohh, nice to know as my companies bike to work scheme has Halfords as its preferred supplier and I am looking to upgrade from my entry level Bianchi (relegated to a winter bike) to a carbon frame that isn’t going to break the bank.

Anymore feedback thoughts on the Boardman bike would be much appreciated.

I haven't ridden one but had a good look in Halfords the other week and they look pretty decent. All the mags rave over them too. Only problem is that the cycle 2 work scheme is limited to £1000 for most companies and it would be nice to get the £1500 model. But the £1000 model seems to win every group test anyway.......

So I assume the £999 special edition bikes Andrew mentioned at the top of this thread are the same as the ones on the Halfords website, but a bit more blingy?
Who actually makes Boardman bikes?

I'm assuming he has just leant his name to an established set up as opposed to expensively starting up his own company.

Sean

There's a bit here about Alan Ingarfield, the CEO: http://www.tri247.com/article_3365.html.

I would guess Halfords effectively own the brand though. They'll actually be made by Chinese/Taiwanese firms like Marco says of course.

PS: bet they weren't happy that Sky are on Pinarellos!

Quick update on this post.

It's arrived at the shop and they need a day to build it. All I've gotta do is pick it up and part with my cash. Should be this week.

Merry Christmas!!! :D :D

Sonic I am persuading my wife to get me a Team Carbon for Christmas and was tempted by the limited addition but felt a white bike will attrack lots of dirt and spend more time being cleaned than ridden.

But that sure looks good, have you collected it yet and will you put it on the wall as a piece of art or get it filthy in the winter muck?
