Sunday Ride to ACC Cyclo Cross - CANCELLED

Postby Andrew G » Sun Nov 15, 2009 4:38 pm

Next Sunday is the ACC cyclo cross promotion at Penshurst Off Road Centre. I'm helping out at this and if the weather is agreeable then I intend to ride over.

I need to be there for about 11ish (sign in, final course checks, marshal briefing etc) and will be leaving from outside Planet Spice at 9:45am. It is the restaurant at the end of Featherbed Lane, turn right at the end of Gravel Hill and you can't miss it, or come down through Selsdon and it's just after the Esso garage on the right by the lights (about 4 miles from Croydon). - map.

It's about 20 miles to the venue so there'll be plenty of time to get there, it'll be a bit rolling/lumpy in places on the way out. If you plan on joining me let me know so I can wait for you. If you haven't done this before then it's worth mentioning that during the races etc there's standing about marshaling, it's November, and you need to walk around in an off road centre. In other words you'll want extra jacket etc and shoes if you don't have SPDs you can walk in - I expect I'll transfer the pedals from my MTB - so a rack pack/pannier/rucksack is a good idea. Also bring some lights for the return as the last race will finish shortly after 3pm and you'll probably need them towards the end of the return journey.

Giving an early heads-up but I'll update this post on Friday/Saturday to confirm once the likely weather is known. If it's due to rain before late afternoon/early evening then I won't ride out due to the standing about getting cold and then getting back on the bike in soggy clothes factor.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Current forecast is dry most of the week, wetish on Friday, deluge on Saturday and dryish on Sunday. So should make for a mudbath of a race at PORC but OK for riding there and back.

It was the year I raced it and also each of the subsequent years when I've helped out so I'd be dissapointed if it was any different this year :D .

Bounce and update...

I don't need to be there before 11ish so will leave from Planet Spice at 9.45am now.

Still weather permitting obviously.

Weather not permitting. Showers and a chilly day are forecast which don't lend themselves to a day of marshaling between bike rides.
