It's coming down your chimney right about now...

Lanterne Rouge – Festive Edition Number 13

This time round we have special treats galore. The first is confirmation that Santa has agreed to be our guest editor this month. Take it away Saint Nick.

Ho ho ho. Hello children and a warm welcome to this festive lanterne rouge. I’ve been keeping a close eye on you all this year and so I know you’ve ridden very safely and been very agreeable. Well if the truth be told that Marky Mark’s been a bit cheeky but hey, I’m in a good mood so we’ll let it go.

The Addiscombe CC AGM took place last week. There were mince pies (thanks for leaving a few for me and the elves by the way) and some important business was discussed and agreed on. Now, as the jolly fellow I am I appreciate that AGMs aren’t always the funnest thing on the calendar but they are an essential part of what keeps your lovely club going so your committee asked me to pass on a special Santa thank you to all those members who ho ho ho’d their way through the proceedings. Once your general secretary Paul Tunnell has finished helping me deliver all the presents, he will be sending a gazette to you all with a review of the AGM and a review of the year.

Your annual club dinner and prize presentation is taking place at Wotton House on January 16th 2010. The fires will be roaring, the venue is top drawer (Mrs Santa has seen the brochure and is insisting we take our post Christmas break there). The menu and full details are on the forum and I believe one of my elves sent you some information a few weeks back. So far over half the tickets have sold and at £30 per head it looks jolly good Christmassy value to me. I had hoped to give a few of you a lift in my sleigh but it will be in for repairs so the club has laid on a bus to and from East Croydon for all those who don’t wish to drive. There are also rooms available at £70 inc B&B. Call the hotel directly and ask reservations for the special ACC rate. This looks set to be another great ACC night out and I hope you all enjoy yourselves. Tickets available here and from Joyce at the café. Also Paul Tunnell will be out on Saturday 2nd and Saturday 9th Jan with tickets for sale too.

Some late Christmas present news. I was thinking what do cyclists like to get for Christmas? You probably all dream of nice shiny new bikes eh? Well I’m sorry but I couldn’t find any of those in my warehouse. I did spot a couple of ideas I thought I would share with you.

Zefal make a rather tidy swan necked rear mudguard for all those silly lightweight bikes that don’t take proper mudguards (and panniers – I mean, where’s a Santa supposed to keep his grub n stuff?). They are available from Petra Cycles on 01883 715114 for only £9.67. They look quite cool (well so Eddy Merckx tells me). Also I spotted these super bright fibre optic glow sticks to keep you seen in the dark winter months. You can ask me for these courtesy of the good people at chain reaction cycles, they cost £27.99.

Well it’s time for me to go and get ready for my busiest day of the year. So remember, ride safely, be agreeable with each other and when the marshalling elves come and ask for your help in 2010, please say yes. I may be watching.

Yours truly

Saint Nick
