Another Question for the IT Gurus

Error message:

Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is a available.

This appears in the Control Panel when I try to check the calibration of a Saitek Cyborg 3D joystick. Sad, I know, but the little Dombos are distraught as the stick only allows rolls to port. Starboard is almost nonexistent, curtailing the little lad's dogfighting capability.

I've checked interweb and all it seems to suggest is shelling out for registry cleaners. Again, if there is one that you gurus recommend I'd be mightily grateful.

Thanks, and happy new year to all.

Couple of suggestions:
- Check the intarwebs for updated Saitek drivers (like on their website)
- De-install and re-install drivers
- Get a track cycling game instead - you'll only have to turn left
- Swear at the computer a lot

I'd be very skeptical of registry cleaners being able to fix that problem.

BTW: it's possible that it's a hardware problem.

Cheers Phil. I shall look into the track cycling game, if only because I have done everthing else you suggest!
New stick may be on the cards. Or else the little Dombos will just have to get out on their bikes into the fresh air.

I've managed to stay fairly clear of Vista so not an expert, but what appears to have happened is Vista now thinks your joystick driver is malware and wont let it run. There's a possibility that the System File Checker (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833) might put it right but otherwise it's down to MS or the joystick manufacturer to issue a patch.

(Of course, hardware manufacturers wont support anything older than 12 months 'cos they want you to buy a new one and MS want you to upgrade to Windows 7.)

Thanks. As it's around 5 years old i think a new stick may be on the cards.
