Warning - killer pothole near White Down!

Postby Mulberry » Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:12 pm

Hello All,

We all know there are some nasty potholes which have sprung up recently however this one is particularly bad and claimed several casualties arleady including a broken clavicle!!

It is on Raikes Lane just before you reach the A25. It is of special significance as it is on the CTC Hilly route at the bottom of a hill before you cross the A25 to ride up White Down. Plus it has recently been covered in water which hides the depth and sharp edges of the holes although there was a clear line thru the middle last Sunday.

Hopefully the above link works. APPROACH WITH EXTREME CAUTION!!! The same obviously applies to any other large puddles you approach around the Surrey Hills.

Regards, Marcus

Cheers for the heads up Marcus. Maybe if you visualise it as a dartboard you'll just whizz right round it (sound of me putting tin hat on and phone book down back of trousers)

Ooops! apologies for my earlier off the cuff remark, I hadn't spotted that harm had been done

Adam

I don't think you would know the casualty - Peter, tall osteopath who mainly rides sportives with a bit of RRs too. He sent me a good x-ray of the break.

I think one of the group which we saw on Sunday had fallen off too. They were busy repairing punctures and warning approaching cyclists of the hazard!

[quote="Sean Hogan"]A photo of the pothole would in truth be a lot of help too.

Good idea!

We could tape it to our handlebars, like those silhouettes of German bombers during the War. That way if we see it we'll know not to ride into it.

Or is it for your upcoming book, "Potholes with Pendleton"?

In a major photo competition showing of winners at the National Portrait Gallery, there's a side-on picture of VP nude, Sean. The picture didn't win. The bike is a Trek ...
