Addiscombe Open 25 - Urgent - Help Wanted

Postby Robert » Thu Apr 22, 2004 2:13 pm

Urgent - more volunteers desperately needed to help run the first major event in the calendar of races put on by Addiscombe CC. Linda Good (linda@lngood.freeserve.co.uk) is organising the event for the second year running, and has a full field of 120 riders and reserves, and urgently needs more volunteers to help the event run smoothly. Thank you to those who have already come forward, but surely out of a club of over 200 members surely we can do better ?!. At the minimum all that is required is at least two hours of your time, so please don`t read this and think oh somebody else will do it, seize the moment and put yourself forward and help put something back into the sport we all enjoy!!!

It's on Sunday 2nd May, first rider starting at 6.31am, near Horsham.
Just email Linda and she'll let you know what she wants you to do.

Answering the second part of your question, time-trialling appears to have an entry system which is designed to put people off.

In order to enter you need to find out who is promoting the event. The basic details are on the ctt website (http://www.ctt.org.uk). However this does not seem to give you the address of the promoter which is pretty essential.

To get the address you need either to contact the promoter or look it up in the CTT Handbook - available from the CTT or some good cycling shops.

Once you have the name and address of the promoter you need an entry form (CTT website again) which has to be filled in and with the promoter together with entry fee usually about two weeks before the event (this is not entirely accurate but close enough and I can't be bothered to explain how the actual date is calculated). You then wait for a start sheet to see if you have got a start and this also encloses details of the course used.

Alternatively you could enter one of our evening 10s excellently promoted by Dave Palmer. Details appear in marco's e-mail and the entry procedure involves e-mailing Dave to enter and paying a couple of quid on the night. Far simpler!

Answer to the second question - the Cycling Time Trials website http://www.ctt.org.uk. There's an online events list which can be searched in various ways (month, region, distance etc) to find events, but it doesn't give the organisers address for sending your entry. For that you need the CTT handbook which you can order from the website, or just ask on here. You can download the entry form from the website too. No racing license or anything required - if you're a ACC member you're sorted.

Can anyone give me a lift to Horsham? Am in West Norwood, can ride to Croydon or nearby but think riding to Horsham at that hour is unlikely. Cheers

In the same boat as Elliot M, I have emailed Linda with offer of help but have no means of getting there  unless I can get a lift from someone near to crystal Palace, and a place where I can leave my bike.

Elliot & Kieren,
I live in Penge, not a million miles from either of you, so can give you a lift. Email with addresses phone no's etc and we'll sort out the details.

Surely bikes are allowed on trains :? Horsham is a pretty big station.

Or do trains not run that early?
