Club Runs 10/4/2010 to ACC road race

Postby huw williams » Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:39 am

Club runs will be happening as normal on saturday but a number of riders will be going to support the ACC open road race at Bletchingly as well as to fulfil volunteer helping duties

The race starts at 1.30pm so be aware that if you want to go directly from the cafe at Charlwood you'll have some time to kill and if you intend to watch the whole race or are helping out, it's a very long day if you start with the CR at 9.00am

Any VC's wanting to arrange alternate club run routes which start later and go directly to the race please post details here asap.

We have a few riders competing in the race
Keith Lea Sylvain Garde Richard Hosking George Brent Robert Wright ...as well as dozens working on the event itself so there'll be plenty of familiar faces up there.

Course details are here:

I will be riding there directly from home so I can pick up anyone who wants to join me. As I'll be on the tourer with my panniers full of cake (hopefully), I shan't be going fast :D

(not that I'm going fast at the moment :( )

Well, I'll be riding from Hackbridge and can call in at CSS on my way. What time do we have to be there? Especially as I'm doing the canteen...

Suppose we say 11.30, leaving by 11.40 at CSS?

I'm feeling slightly mischievous...

Club runs should not be happening "as normal" this Saturday. The ACC RR should be the focus of the club for the day. That's not to say that those who are so hopelessly addicted to trolling up and down the A23 etc to Charlwood and zzzzzzz back should not do so for yes, it is a free country. But I think folk should be encouraged to ride out to the circuit and enjoy an different perspective of cycling. I happen to believe that the sooner the club learns to bend and flex a bit the better, that's all.

Good luck to everyone taking part, and well done all you helper folk, this sport ain't nothing without you. Sorry I can't make it this year but I have a lot of work to do this weekend and a lunch to attend in memory of a good friend sadly no longer with us.

I bet the new ACC banners are going to look great 8)

Just got your pm, Toks - good job Mark McL was there to tell me you weren't coming :|

I agree with Ant - MAN FLU!! AND trying to blame it on Steph...

So it was just Mark and me riding from CSS - a great start by Mark as he started to head south down the main road leaving me sitting at the junction wondering where he was going

Anyway, I had a good ride and enjoyed the day at the races, using the bike to nip down to the pub corner and watch the race go through each time and then back up to help in the kitchen again. Marky Mark and Rob were in great form - must have been the beers... 8)

Thanks for the glass of wine, Marky :D
