The tyres have arrived...

Postby sonic909 » Thu Apr 29, 2010 8:23 pm

So following on from my wiggle thread; viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11022&p=101547&hilit=wiggle#p101547 they are here... as an apology they also gave me a £10 code... so i used that to get some continental "race" long valve tubes.

Today i spent about an hour and a half fighting the new tires onto my rims... hardest tyre/tube fit i have ever done and i have done a few!

Try it again... i dunno i have had a cold and feel worse on the bike lately than i did about 10 weeks ago when i last tried the TG.

I want to get a new groupset first as my durace 7800 is at the end of its life... so am gonna put all those shiny bits on with the wheels.

DaveK 'm only joking about training on them - although i am just a wannabe so all my riding is training hehe!, i will only use these wheels for fine weather clubruns and TT's... i am still not confident enough to race, i know what the tyre's are like because i run them on my daily driver, i'm happy with them on that bike and thats why i went with them.

If they're for training, you should be on 15 euro sh1t bottom of the range Michelin's.

Alternatively, listen to the man who makes the most sense and put some decent tyres on those things, i.e VITTORIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Training tyres, race tyres, tubulars, latex, Vittoria, Vredestein ....

All very interesting, but the main thing is that you got the logo lined up with the valve. Well done! :D

I put decent tyres on any wheels Adam. I want something that grips well and doesn't puncture too often whatever riding I'm doing. I don't see the point in scrimping on any tyres, they're the only thing in contract with the road after all.

Vittoria tubs for racing 8) .

Isn't the Tricomp Slick amongst the lightest and and most expensive of all clinchers? As such I would have thought it's very much a race tyre! The regular Tricomp, on the other hand, is half the price, 40-odd grams heavier and does make quite a good training and touring tyre.

Ah, the ol' clincher vs. tub debate 8) ...I seem to remember reading somewhere that tubs suffer from significantly higher rolling resistance than clinchers...yup, it was here

So how many times do you wear out a set of tryes in a year??

Fail to see the relevance of that Adam. It doesn't matter how many miles you do as to whether your tyres grip or have any puncture protection. Keep an eye out for online deals and you can save a reasonable amount on RRP. I'll stick with using good tyres for the meagre mileage I do thanks.

I think that spending more on tyres is actually a better investment. Cheapo tyres tend to cut up quick and you get punctures more often, so unless you want to mend tubes all the time you will spend more on tyres and tubes in the longer term. I am a conti 4000s man now, I think they are pretty decent tyres, ride well enough and I don't seem to get too many punctures.

Nice wheels by the way.

Cheers

I just mean that if you wear through a set of tyres every few months, you have to consider the price of you're tyres, thats all.

I don't really have much loyalty as far as tyres are concerned, that said, if I have the choice, I will almost always go for Vittoria. But ultimately it comes down to how much I'm getting them for. Right now I'm fortunate enough to be supported by a couple of guys who somehow get me exceptionally good tryes for exceptionally cheap prices. That said, that doesn't mean I can afford to ride on Vittoria Open Corsa's all the time, believe me, if the budget was there, I would! Thats when cheaper rubber comes into play, plus, it makes you really apreciate your racing tyres.

What makes you so in favour of Conti GP4000s, Marek?
