at last, Gold at the Etape du Dales ...

Postby Brian Nolan » Mon May 17, 2010 8:23 pm

yep - finally managed it on my 4th attempt , went under 7 hrs up in Yorkshire at the Etape du Dales :D clocked a time of 6hrs 54 minutes for a gold standard, smashing my previous best time of 7hrs 25.. Not sure how I done it as there was a raging headwind all day, but the sport ident timers don't lie !
I thought I might have been just outside the 7hrs so when I was told my time I was elated and a bit emotional ! felt like I was on cloud nine all last night :D :D ,
cheers,
bry,

wow - just read that Malcolm Elliott broke the course record with 5hrs 43, that is amazing - just shows that old racers get better and better !

Well done Brian, nice one, although with your later post you've now set yourself up for a ribbing if you don't improve again next year :) .

Well done, Brian.

My car had trouble getting up some of those climbs at Easter!

thanks Andrew :) , I was on my own for a couple of large stretches ( funny how 700 odd riders can get split up all over the place ), so I think I can go a bit better.. Depends v much on the weather though - if it rains much u have to forget about a fast time, the descents are scary enough in the dry !
cheers Del ! luckily not too many cars on those roads up there , unlike the Fred Whitton, so I've been told...

Excellent stuff Brian, its always great to hear people reaching their goals. Good weather always helps but you've no doubt got fitter too. 8) In this world of endurance cycling 'older doesn't have to mean slower'. :D

thanks Toks :) I was going out with the TG and then doing long rides the next day, I think doing two tough days on the w/ends helps prepare for these events. Plus lost a bit of weight recently ( cut out the red wine , hic ), which always helps...
