Club Run Riding: Complaint

Postby Toks » Wed May 19, 2010 9:53 am

Yesterday evening a Palace a cyclist (not a racer) made a joke about me riding for "the Scum" Addiscombe and then suggested that some of our group riding had completely gone to pot. What has happened to the group leaders he asked? Apparently we're now riding four abreast in parts and locals are not to happy blah blah blah. Anyway I wasn't there and he may well have been exaggerating the case but he sincerely feels he sees this type of riding quite regularly. I don't know if he has an axe to grind or what but I'd just thought I'd mention it

Some harsh words for a complaint about riding 4 abreast. If he was serious then I would expect a more civil complaint would be appropriate.

That's interesting Toks. I was talking to somebody else from another club recently who had similar things to say. Not quite as harsh as scum but certainly not complimentary about the behaviour on the club run.

It seems the norm for other clubs to be wanting to have a pop at our club, i think jealousy comes into it, it is probably because they don't have enough on there CR to ride four a breast

A tricky one, some times I think it is the size of the group and often looking from behind it can seem that the riders are stacked more than 2 abreast, this may be because they are not lined up perfectly behind each other. Certainly in the past I think the main problem for crowd control has been the hills.

Well being another cyclist he didn't want to make a complaint but reckoned we'd soon be getting one from a member of the public.I take your point Keiran it can often look quite messy from the back especially when people are deciding are getting into position on hills. Still we've got a good rep so we want to preserve it if we can

Four abreast seems unlikely and surely something a group captain would have spotted and fixed.
If he did see this then even if he's a cyclist he should report it saying where and when it happened that way both sides of the story can be checked out properly.

I haven't been on a club run this year but some club run reports have mentioned sloppy group riding. Literally minutes ago I was reminded of the frequent crashes on our runs and also littering. Hmm :?:

Four even three abreast - would not be tolerated
Littering - never seen any
Crashes - When you get so many riders out on a weekly basis there is going to be the odd accident
The scum - A very old friendly rivalry nickname used by local jealous much much smaller clubs - who cares

Toks are you hanging out with Nigel Havers or something? :?
