Managed to break my handle bars!!! DOH!

Postby sonic909 » Wed Jun 16, 2010 6:16 pm

Well, as most of you know i had a nasty crash last month (hit a pedestrian that ran out, did a somersault, landed on my head and shoulder and broke my right shoulder and left wrist).

Today Corridori rang to say that they still had all the bits i'd ordered to revamp my bike for 2010 so i arranged to go and collect them, and take my battered cycle up to have a insurance quotation done.

Whilst standing chatting i leant on the bars as you do, and the left side of the bar just collapsed! So it's more expensive than a new helmet and a scratched up bike lol.

Epic fail;

All appears ok, just scuffed (also available in yellow)...

But under the tape;

I wonder if i was still holding the bar as i hit the deck after doing a foreward roll, as theres no way that carbon's shattered as i hit this girl in the kidneys, so it must of been on the ground after a full tumble... it would explain how i fractured my left wrist though as the force would of been phenomenal!

So, now i have loads of shiney toys to complement my shiney new Zipps (which i still haven't ridden on yet!) but no bike to fit them too... and need to order up some handle bars.

It's typical as i had a real hunt to get a new carbon seat post to match my bars, and now i need new bars... just my luck lol...!

Still, on the bright side... new toys;

So... i'm in the market for some barmac bars if anyones got some... there's some on ebay but i can't remember the size of mine!

What happened to the pedestrian? Toks has a habit of hitting female pedestrians too.

Is she paying for all your replacements and recuperation or has she got off scot free :?:

She went down hard but only had bad bruising, the CTC are dealing with it.

Cheers... yeah i'm a bit messed up hence terrorising the forums and facebook and ebay and generally being an overqualified bum.

I've jacked my sling in yesterday as it was doing more harm than good... my elbow was hurting and seizing up and i kept feeling the need to move/stretch my shoulder... i actually feel better just taking it easy without it, i wore it for 5 weeks.

Bad luck, Sonic, glad you're on the mend.
Have you checked if Specialized do a crash replacement policy on their bars? Otherwise wiggle have got some (wonderful thing, google :wink: ). I'd say you're probably a 44 (centre to centre) but there should be something printed on your bars, perhaps under the tape.

It looks as though somebody's flogged you two cassettes, but only one pedal. You might want to look into that.

Hehe, the other pedals defo in the box, and the two cassettes are for work/training wheels and "go faster" wheels.

That's OK, he's only got one shoe.

Edit: although it is a left shoe and a right pedal :lol:
