Soft London?

Postby Andrew G » Tue Jun 29, 2010 8:44 am

The rain was foaming up a bit on the roads this morning, is London turning soft?

Nah, just all the crud that hasn't been washed off since last time it rained - bet it was a bit greasy in places :|

I wish I had ridden in this morning - average speed in the car was 12mph. On the other hand, it does seem to be national Drive Like A Moron day.

Could be. Don't know if it was greasy, didn't feel it but then I was going carefully as the foaming made it look like soap on the road so I kept thinking it was going to be like an ice rink  .

Lost my brakes quite a bit as they just didn't want to work with the combo of filth coming off them / going on them. Black as a black thing so will have to give 'em a wipe and replace my brake pads tonight which I've been stretching out as long as possible as I couldn't be bothered to change them but have now finally given up the ghost.

Yep sounds about right, had a taxi repeatedly drive as close as possible to me on the Walworth Road...up to the point where he couldn't keep up :D .

heh, aye - I was off at 6 - I need the extra 15 mins beauty sleep. Looking out of the window it's looking good, might go for a long diversion on the way home.

Nice ride out to Box Hill this morning, no rain or very wet/foamy roads, following breeze home, spaghetti and meat balls at Nonna's, with World Cup analysis with Angelo ... Mmmmm, nice! :D

Thought I might finally get round and answering  's question,

No, London is not getting soft but there is detergent in the better end range of petrol which is there to help keep the engines cleaner. Of course, over a dry spell, all the crud - oil, petrol, diesel, rubber from the tyres, etc. builds up on the roads until it finally rains and everything gets frothy.

This was probably the problem on the Tour the other day.

Bit foamy on the roads again this morning, as demonstrated by the motorbike rider who lost it on a bend in front of me, ending up on his 'arris in the gutter and leaving bits of wing mirror and fairing on the road.
