Bottom Bracket information required

Does anyone know if the taper on a Shimano bottom bracket axle is significantly different to that of a Campagnolo? (I want to stick a Veloce chainset on a un72 bb).

Er have heard it is so never tried it.

I think the taper is the same angle, but starts from a slightly different size square. So it should go on OK but the chainline might be a bit different, so might need a bit of tweaking of the front mech to make it work.
