Done it last year in 4 hrs 1 min. Training tips? Do some!
Seriously, I'm hoping to do it again this year and improve by 5% (12 mins) which I hope is do-able. Kept it steady last year so that I didn't blow. The cycling section was fairly easy but the second run was quite hard. I ran a hilly 8 miles once a week as training last year but will do more training this time round.
Great feeling when you finish it.

I did this race in 2001 and 2002. The first time I did it I prepared well and got through it ok. The second time around, I didn't prepare properly and suffered loads on the second run.

This is more of a runner's race. The bike section looks after itself if you're doing things like the club run regularly. Good running training pays off more, especially as with good preparation you'll overtake alot of people in the last half of the second run. Just do loads of running training - especially long runs and hill reps, plus the odd half marathon or more tagged on to a bike session. It is also worth running round the course in the weeks leading up to the event (you'll find lots of people there doing the same thing !).

I'm doing it this year - will be starting my long runs soon so will be happy to hook up with a group for a blast around crystal palace/dulwich wood.

I did it two years ago and in 3hrs 38mins. I had not cycled much at that point. The running was really hard, the second time round was a killer. Train your butt off, I think you need to do the 16miles of running quite regularly to give you a reasonable time. The brick sessions are also a good idea, maybe go for a run after the club ride, take in some hills and feel the pain, that is what you are going to be putting yourself through.

I don't think I will be doing it this year as the memories of the first time still have not gone away.

Cheers

Thanks for all your advice everyone.I"m feeling a little bit scared now. I did the team version ,when they ran one ,a couple of years running with 2 good runners and we did o.k. this off course is a different proposition entirely!

When do you have to get the entries in by? Max and I are tempted to have another go if there is going to be a high ACC turnout, would be quite a good laugh. Means having to dust off my trainers and get butt into gear but worth it for the feeling of finishing this race.

Cheers

I'm going to enter this one, so will be up for joining you and your mates for a run round the course Gary. I'd probably run at around a similar pace. My weekends are booked for early Sept but would be happy to join you in the latter half.

Have started running again but only going round locally at the mo as Crystal Palace is probably just as undulating as Box Hill and at present I'm not running that far on my sessions (about 6 miles).

When I increase the mileages I'll probably run round Richmond Park - also undulating - one loop is about 7.5 miles.

Btw as a rehearsal I was hoping to do one duathlon and also one longish (about half marathon) local running race that I can cycle to and from.
Are there any races that you guys have already entered ? We could get together an Addiscombe group. Duathlon wise there are a few around late Sept/early Oct around the UK, notably at Goodwood and Ipswich. I was also sent an entry for one that's happening in Northern France (Ardres, nr Calais) on 26/9 in the afternoon. It's quite well attended by Brits, and one or two people from the club did it last year. Apparently well organised and good value for money and even though it's Calais it's still quite undulating - distances 10k 40k 5k.

Any ideas ?
