Club Track Championships

Postby richv » Wed Jul 28, 2004 12:07 pm

A date for your diaries - 12th September 2004 time to be confirmed

The Addiscombe Track Championships is open to club members only (we run the day in conjunction with a couple of other clubs) and at present we compete for the following competitions within the club:

Sprint (2 laps)
Team Pursuit
Scratch Race

Depending upon numbers/time we may try and run a women's event and a devil as well.

This is supposed to be a friendly/informal competition and is a great way to try your first (track) race if you want. Noone is going to shout at you and there will be plenty of friendly faces around.

Those who want to take part please let me know (viney@12kbw.co.uk) so that I can have some idea of numbers and can work out some sort of program.

Do not worry about your track experience. As long as you have completed the track beginners session you should be ok. If you haven't done that and want to race you can pop down to Herne Hill on a Saturday morning where there is a regular beginners session.

Any difficulty in organising a team for a team pursuit let me know and I will put all the names in a hat and create some teams.

That's stumped me a bit.

I have a feeling that the club rules provide that second claim members are not eligible for club competitions (for example I know they aren't eligible for the club TT handicap and assume this is the reason) but I don't know for sure so will have to check.

If second clam members aren't eligible for the competitions then I'm still happy for them to come along and take part as 'guests' providing our insurance will cover it.

Unfortunately I'm away on holiday for a couple of weeks so it will be a while before I can confirm.

The other clubs are Bec and De Laune

I'm planning to ride. I can't be bothered to organise a team properly for the 4-up, but anyone who's about my speed can say so here, and Richard will no doubt oblige by teaming us together.

I'm afraid that BC's insurance will not cover us for anyone riding who is a first-claim member of another club so unfortunately that means second claim members won't be able to ride.
Sorry about that but we get an extremely good deal on the insurance on the basis of this being a closed event. Otherwise the cost would make the whole thing prohibitively expensive.

Even if I'm a Gold BCF licence holder?
I thought the whole point of a racing licence was so that you have accident insurance in a race!

Track Champs

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:35 am

Brett, this is where it all gets a bit complicated as the insurance for the event is based on third party cover, ie if a member of the public unwittingly strays on to the track and gets mown down by 40 guys n girls on fixed wheel bikes unable to stop!!

Because BC offer a closed event insurance for a reduced one off payment, no individual rider levies are paid to BC (normally in addition to event insurance) and in return the restriction is placed on the event that only 1st claim riders may ride.

I personally think it is entirely unreasonable, but I think BC wanted to close a loophole whereby organisers where running a series of track meetings and getting every rider to join their club 2nd claim for free or a nominal fee and thus avoiding payment to BC.......

If you feel strongly about it, then come along to BC AGM, and get it changed. It is on 26 September at Bletchingley Village Hall at 6.00pm

What are the rules on bikes. Can I use my fixed wheel road bike. It does have brakes but I can undo the cables.

I 'm afraid I don't know. I know its fine if the levers and brakes come off as well and I suspect that it is necessary for them to come off.

I knew someone would have to mention the 'r' word. That's blown it then - I was looking forward to a sunny weekend.

Road Bikes on track

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Fri Sep 10, 2004 11:12 am

Aodan
Without being too technical, the rules state that there must be no projections from the bike that may injure another competitor in the event of a crash, which includes such things as brakes, gear levers, cables etc.
Of course, if you're riding alone i.e. time trial, individual pursuit theen this would not be a problem.
Best bet is to be on the safe side and hire a bike there that conforms to the regulations.
