New clichés?

Postby Phil H » Tue Apr 26, 2011 11:12 am

Watching some of the classics recently the phrase of the moment (apart from "Gilbert wins!") seems to be "it's chess on wheels". Not sure if this one is new, but I've only just noticed it. It is ridiculous though.

"Chess on wheels" is an old corny chestnut often used by Hugh Porter, along with many others he overworks. He was a much better pursuiter than he is a commentator. Quite like Jill Douglas's quiet style, though, and Chris Boardman gives out a lot of useful info from his expertise.

Sometimes Kelly can be great:

Other commentator: "This is incredible, these three have been away for the last 100k and it looks like if they can hold this pace they up ... (2 minutes of excited ranting) ... Sean, can they stay away?"
SK: "No"
