Tamar and Keith's travels

Postby Andrew G » Fri Apr 29, 2011 6:18 pm

Keith's going to try and keep a sort of mini blog on the Bec website when time allows, and facilities presumably as some of the places they're going I doubt there's internet connection, in a tent by the roadside in Eastern Europe for example :D .

Leg one in Blighty.

Nice one - hope they have a lot of fun.

I notice the Bec website lists committee members and what they do - that's helpful, we could pinch that idea maybe?

Bec cc's website in general is very good for such a small club, its a shame about our one though :(

Uh-oh, we're heading back over old ground.

We've a new framework for the ACC website but no new content. We've huge quantities of content in this Forum but it's not part of the ACC website. So .......

Sorry for lack of updates. Keith had written a big piece for the Bec site a week or so ago, but then managed to lose it all as he tried to add photos. Lesson 1 - draft in Word not on the actual blog! Anyhow, we're currently in Naas in Ireland staying with one of Keith's brothers and resting our weary legs. The ride up through England was lovely. Quiet roads, beautiful scenery and, once we'd left the south east, very little traffic. The toughest riding was in the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales. The 70 miles from New Mills to Gargrave along the Pennine Cycleway took nearly 13 hrs (inc stops) and saw us pushing up a few of the hills...which in itself was something of a challenge as we tried not to fall over each other or the panniers. The Lake District, Scotland and Northern Ireland were flatter and the riding much easier...but we've both picked up niggles in the form of sore achilles tendons so are trying to take it easy for a bit. The bike, a Hase PIno, is going beautifully. Max speed so far 78kph with pilot Keith scraping the panniers on the tarmac as he hurls us round tight bends (accompanied by my impotent squawks of protest)...and min speed about 5-6kph as soon as the road goes uphill. The trailer's not behaving quite as well as we'd like, but I'm going to email the manufacturer in a while to see what they suggest to stop it wagging like a labrador's tail at seemingly random intervals.

Hope to update the Bec blog properly at some point....

T

Glad to hear Keith's calmed down with his cornering Tamar  . Must be fun for you sitting up front as he tips it in to the bend, get the best view :D .

Carole, the plan of attack was, I think if I can remember, across France and on to the Danube and follow that, then on through most of Eastern Europe and the Black Sea to Russia. For starters anyway  .

Tamar and Keith are now in Odessa with 9,200kms under their wheels :D . They haven't killed each other yet  , but did kill a bike on the way so have been a bit delayed as they waited for a new frame and Keith had to rebuild it a campsite.

Tamar is keeping their blog up to date with some excellent reporting, it really is like reading a very good travelogue book. If you haven't read it, or aren't up to date then I recommend it for some great reading about clubmates adventures across Europe on a semi-recumbent tandem.

If you happen to stumble across this when you're wi-fiing Tamar and Keith then hello and good luck with the rest of the trip, where ever and when ever it takes you, really been enjoying reading about your travels.
