Cheers Nick

Hey mate

I haven't heard anything since the incident, but I was with Sam's group up until he was taken in an ambulance. By the looks of things he was doing fine at that point. He got up and walked to the ambulance with Jon without too much difficulty. A few grazes, cuts and bruises, and a broken arm and/or collar bone... Hopefully nothing more than that.

I hope he recovers well and comes out of this a stronger rider.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for your concern.

Sam is OK - hours in A and E at East Surrey and then transferred to East Grinstead where they specialise in facial injuries. Home by 8.30!!!

he's in a bit of a mess that newly laid gravel surface acted as a mega cheese grater and ripped lumps out of his hip, back and face.

Broken arm just below the wrist - this is nasty and giving him a lot of pain - on strong painkiller and being very brave.

15 stitches in the wound on his face - huge whole, you could see through to the bone! - he's going to have a nice scar.

completely his fault - no one else involved - I'll let him explain what happened.

He went to The maxillofacial unit I take it, they do wonders there, 3 of my 4 children have used it, 1 for a burn, 1 for her brace and the other for lip reconstruction after he was kicked in the face (By accident i must add) at rugby. Almost on first name terms with them.

Wish him well, He should get plenty of sampathy, how is the bike????? thats the brutal bit as that always costs to repair.....

I learnt to live with my road Rash as it gave me something to pick at whilst watching TV. :)

Thanks, Nick, the unit was closed but he was seen by a Max-Facs doctor. Bike will need some work but doesn't look too bad. No scabs yet - just a weeping mess! yuk!

Hi all

Jon, awesome to hear that Sam is on the road to recovery. I have to say, its great seeing a sporting dad like yourself - if my dad saw my bones through flesh I'd be banned from cycling ever again! So I guess Sam joins the ranks of other fallen riders this week - i.e. Wiggins, Boonen, Horner, Flecha, Hoogerland... Nice one!

Cheers
