Cyclo-cross anyone?

Postby sylv » Tue Aug 31, 2004 7:01 pm

I'm thinking of having a go at the cx season again this year - races from early October to early Feb next year.

Is anyone else planning to be racing? Without a car myself I'd be willing to share petrol expenses with someone who could give me lifts (and I'd also ride to and from their place [within Croydon area]).

Thanks!

Hi Sylvain,

I hope to do a few of these but haven't decided on all of them yet - I'll probably just do the ones in the London area - Eastway, Hillingdon, etc.

I'm not around for the 1st one at Eastway on 11th Sep (Eastern League) - the 1st London League one is at Lancing (nr Worthing) on 3rd Oct. I probably won't do that. If you go, bear in mind that it can get extremely muddy !!
Will do the one at Eastway on 10th Oct - can offer a lift for that one.
Was going to try and ride over to the Eastway ones weather permitting but I'm meant to be doing Dulwich 10k run race that day so I might be a bit tired to ride over.
Will go to our one at Penshurst - if I'm racing I'll drive there - if I'm helping will ride over.

As I decide on my races will let you know.
btw also need to get in some of your off-road rides - would be very useful !

Cheers,

Maria

Sylvain
I am struggliing to get any sort of form at the moment so unlikely that I will ride much, but have offered to commissaire some (TBA) so would have an empty car, but would mean getting to events early ie before the first race.

Thanks Maria / Paul. Yes i will also be favouring the ones closer to home, and will probably start with the Eastway one on 10th Oct. Will ride there ideally but in case of bad weather would gladly take the lift offer! I know about the mud, don't think it can be worse than the 2000 season I did (or was it 2001), and have the same 1.5" Continental tires as you Maria, ready to roll.

The league works with your eight best results out of 13 races so it's ok to miss a few. There's one almost every Sunday from October to Xmas!

We can get in tough closer to race time.

With missing Beastway and in fact most of the summer cycling this year I was looking for something to aim for for the rest of the year so this might be it.

I think I'll try for 8 events out of 9 before the end of November because I'm probably going to miss 3 over Christmas and there's only 1 in January.

Newish member to ACC (first forum message for starters), but very keen to get racing. Is cyclocross a good place to start? Any particular events worth entering? Do i need a special bike?

Got a reasonably good level of general fitness (doing the Berlin marathon in a couple of weeks time), but not spent enough time on the bike. Can anyone recommend any training programmes or helpful websites.

Apologies for all the questions

Thanks

Thanks for the response - lots to digest!

Did the Ballbuster a couple of years ago, but i think i'm on holiday this year. Won't be missing the jelly legs when you try and start running for the second time!

Is anyone considering/doing/done any of the Monsterman series?

I know it's a bad start but I'm on holiday for the first race, plan to make the Eastway one though.

Not doing that one I'm afraid - will be doing a trail run in Richmond Park instead.
Also, this year I'm sticking to the more local 'cross races - Lancing's a bit far to go and get covered in mud !

Sylv,

I'd be up for all of this - would do Worthing but don't know where it is or anything, plus haven't got working bike yet... although I suppose I could compete on the 222.

How did the DTD go?

I just saw the results at last week's Eastway race. Well done on coming 12th Sylvain. Sorry I couldn't make it - by the time I'd finished the running race and had a rub down as well as the usual chit chat with various folks it was too late for me to get to Eastway in time for the start.

I'm not in London this w/e so can't do or help out at PORC.
Won't do any cyclo x now until after the Ballbuster.
