Lanzarote anyone?

Postby Alan M » Sat Aug 27, 2011 6:32 pm

I am going cycling in Lanzarote 7-14 February 2012 aiming for some early season form. I may hook up with Maurice Burton De Ver Cycles or anyone else who wants to ride 4-6 hours and is willing to assist me in hilly self flagellation. I would welcome some company if anyone is considering some early sunny miles. Cheers. Alan

Alan great idea, if there are enough slower riders I certainly would be up for this.

Below are details of my Easyjet flights, it came to about £250 with a case and bike both ways. I am not certain that we'll get a group but I feel the approach would be ride moderately on the flat, hard on the hills and reform at the top for descending together, maybe alternating hilly and non hilly days with the possibility of a rest day for doing other stuff, maybe some hill/beach walking or rent a car. I am not planning on organising anything just turn up and whoever is there can decide what they want to do together.

Any others interested?

Tempted - I'd join Marcus for the slower version and maybe a bit of 'touring' to see the sights.

Hoping to get some long(er), steady rides over the winter so I might be going a bit better by Feb... oooh look, flying pigs.

I've always stayed at Costa Teguise when I've been there. Quite easy to get to/from the airport, reasonable places to eat, and within riding distance of anywhere on the island.

Interesting Lara wrote on ACC Facebook, "Such an amazing place to ride!!!
challenging winds sometimes but that can be a good thing
but not much traffic, gentle hills, long straightaways, beautiful pristine tarmac, wide roads
ahhh you're making me nostalgic.
My mum lives out there and has a decent rental in a small village close to Teguise if you are interested..
Lara :)"

Hi Alan, I'd be interested in this. I'll have a look at the dates and flights and get back too you. If you could get a definite on where folk are staying that would be handy so I could book that as well.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Sounds very tempting. What sort of ballpark cost are we looking at for flights/rooms/beer/hooke^H^H^H^H food?

I am trying to find out re hotel, as I think I mentioned Maurice Burton is making some inquiries. Flight, bike transport and luggage was £253, EJ from Gatwick. If you look on the ACC FB site there is a post from Lara Galpin Mueller "Such an amazing place to ride!!!

but not much traffic, gentle hills, long straightaways, beautiful pristine tarmac, wide roads
ahhh you're making me nostalgic.

I will ask what the charges might be,

Cheers

Further to this Lara's mum has written, We let our large apartment for holidaymakers- it consists of a large double bedroom, entrance hall, sitting room, kitchen/diner and bathroom with separate shower room. This is normally let at the rate of £175 per week for two people. In addition there is a double sofa bed in the entrance hall and a single comfortable Z-bed in the lounge.
Apart from this there is another double bedroom with its own en-suite bathroom. With people sharing we could accommodate up to 7 people and we have the possibility of another double bed attached to the room with the en-suite. Prices would have to be negotiated according to the number of people staying.

We have lived here for 23 years and as tandem riders, who have completed 6 charity bike rides, have had a lot of experience cycling the island. The island as you know is volcanic and so has some challenging rides- the Iron man challenge is held here annually-and of course the climate is favourable for all year round cycling.

Hey Malarky

How many people do you have coming? Just those that have expressed interest on here?

I am interested and have been given a pass by the family.

Hi Mark, good news - I have seen about 5 expressions of interest but so far none firm enough for me to be certain. Your company would be very welcome.

Cheers
