Box Hill Challenge

Postby Dombo » Wed Sep 28, 2011 11:46 am

Tried to find this on bikeradar but couldn't. Anyone got an idea what is a good time up Box? seem to remember Sylv did it in a smidge over 6minutes. So a good time for a mere mortal? Where do you start and finish the stopwatch, as you turn into zig zag and then as you draw level with NT carpark?

Choufflard is still at the top :?

It's 2.5km from the bottom junction to where you can turn left into the car park opposite to the café - aim for 7min30 ie 20km/h maybe (and so you can beat the Pie)?

Route is as above. My best is 8mins dead but then I'm 189lbs and that was on my older bike and not my gorgeous new Planet X Nanolight which i'm yet to throw in anger at Box Hill.

Get yourself on Strava if you have GPS and you can rank your ride on there too.

Good luck. :D

I can think of many, many reasons why not - especially at the current time.

It's a National Trust property anyway not a public road. The word on the street is that they are now charging sportive organisers £1,000 a time to use it.

There is a CTT time trial course for Box Hill but it continues along the top road rather than just being the haipins. Bec CC have a club event on it at some stage. Have to say I've never seen the big appeal of Box Hill, it's not a particularly special hill to climb and there are plenty nicer for either hill climbing or scenery. I guess it's due to the cafe at the top.

I have sent details in to the local TT district for a course approval for a club hill climb using Brasted Hill. Need to wait until I hear from London South, once cleared then it will be available for us to use for a Club Hill Climb Competition. Very quiet area and nice cafes near by for post event. Idea being that the competition can be run on a Saturday with a group or two riding over via Farthing Downs, then after the comp have a cafe break in Westerham or Brasted, then rides can continue as people want either heading straight for home or nice spins in the lanes.
