Land of Free Speech - my ass

Oh Yeah - America the Land of Free Speech.

Last night the news broadcasts stated that the NYC government is looking into enforcing the law re: Critical Mass rides. Last month they arrested 264 critical mass riders who rode in protest of the Republican Convention in town. The next ride is this Friday night and the NYPD are planning to use nets, trucks and riot police to control and breakup the ride as it endangers the public and impedes traffic flow and such a large congregation of people requires a permit.

In other words if too many people voice an opinion it has to be silenced.
Unless it supports those in power.

I took my first ride into Manhattan (solo!!!!) on Monday. Pretty scary I tell you, but the old London senses took over and I handled it. New York has its own rules though, on one way streets ride on the left side to avoid being doored etc.... But believe me 5 lanes in one direction filled with cabs, trucks, busses and all manner of grunting charging vehicles is scary but kinda fun, definately keeps you alert.

But suddenly traffic was being diverted and 1st Avenue became quieter. Police lining the road were directing all traffic off the road. 3 blocks later the machine guns, police, soldiers were sternly stopping all remaining traffic and escorting them away. The 1 mile line of parked cars on my right was all black limos surrounded by black suits with earpieces. A couple of blocks later and I was alongside the United Nations building. So you see, if you want to bomb the UN whilst the worlds leaders listen to Bush, don't try and drive in, cycle. Its the eco friendly way. A couple of grenades disguised as energy bars and a bidon full of anthrax and deliver it all to the front door. Hell as I left two huge Sanitation trucks, which had been blocking the road, backed out of my way and waved!!!

Next post from me will be from a detention cell as the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, who are monitoring me for my visa application, read this.

Anyone got bail......

"what do you reckon about tyler?"
Well, how's this for a ringing endorsement....NOT!(from cyclingnews.com).

Armstrong on Hamilton

At home in Austin, Texas preparing for upcoming events Tour Of Hope and Ride For The Roses, Lance Armstrong commented to Austin American-Statesman reporter Suzanne Halliburton about the news about his friend and Girona, Spain neighbor Tyler Hamilton.
"I'm surprised, but I also know this is the beginning of a long process," Armstrong said, referring to the tests needed to be done on Hamilton's B samples. "From my experiences with Tyler, he's as honest and straightforward as anyone I know. He's a friend of mine, and I'm just as surprised as anybody else is about this."
