Bargain garmin edge 500

Postby mlocke » Wed Jan 04, 2012 6:27 pm

Picked up for less than hundred quid today

Full package with cadence, speed and HR monitor

Think it's supposed to be more than double the price I paid and they had a couple left

Thanks, Mark, I looked to buy it on line but they're only selling via shop (nothing on-line)- so no good for me (and to be honest does a rank amateur like me really need one anyway!? ) My Edge 200 tells me how fast and far i go. what more does a man want?

Cheers

Oo - did they have any decent capacity HDDs left? Also I could use a >600W ATX PSU.

There's not much of anything left really but if you happen to want something they have then it is cheap

Went again today and they had one edge 500 left for less than 100

Thanks for headsup. However it doesn't have any mapping stuff on it so a basic Cateye speedo and Polar HRM (if you can be ar$ed to monitor your HR!) does the same.

It doesn't have map overlays to give you full gps but it is basically a remodelled version of the Edge 305 which means that it does record GPS which can then later be unloaded to Garmin Connect or Strava etc.
You can also use it as a basic GPS where you can follow a previously mapped breadcrumb track on the screen and it will tell you if you veer off course - not as good as a conventional map system but I have used it on a 120 mile route and it worked ok.

 Yeah a basic computer "does the same".

With the slight exception of recording all data, linking to ANT+ sensors, having a configurable display, configurable intervals, USB link, etc.

Quite. The mapping is the feature on my 705 that use the least. Recording rides and stats is what it's about.

Kind of academic anyway - I popped in yesterday and they haven't got any left. Nor have they any of the shiny PC bits that I "need". If you want a cheap TV and can't wait until the next riot then it might be worth popping in though.

Anyway, an Addiscombe rider needing GPS mapping is perhaps the ultimate irony?

Apologies. I stand corrected.
