Cheam and Morden CTC Hilly 50

Postby Phil H » Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:30 pm

I know this is already on the sportives section but I thought I'd give it a plug here. I've done it the last few years and it's good fun and very silly. Climb is over 1,000m in 50km - anyone fancying a 2,000m ride can just do another lap.

Don't bring your best wheels though - some of the surfaces are really bad.

10:00am at Rykas (bottom of Box) on 10th March.

Can't do it this year but you'll enjoy it John and good training for your Flanders trip as it is just up and down short steep hills on a lot of crappy surfaces  . Very good ride though and a couple of the hills are belters. In all seriousness though the surfaces can be very cracked/broken and have mud etc on them as a lot of them are tiny quiet lanes that sees next to no traffic so take care on the descents.

More than likely, instead of continuing the club run, will stay on the A25 towards Dorking.

Probably do this one on Sunday, Kent Invicta Grimpeur 100K.

John, I believe that Pete Smith is taking a group from CSS at 8:45. That gives plenty of time to get to Rykas, register etc. It's a bit of a giggle there because that's where the (motor)bikers hang out so the tea queue is leather, lyrcra, leather, lycra ...

Going to the toilet there before the event and it's like a fettish nightclub...so I've been told.

Well that was fun (as ever). Not super fast - Tom made it round in about 3:20.Nice to see so many ACC out representing. Including the ride out and back, Garmin is telling me about 1,400m of ascent.

Got quite warm coming up Box in the sun.

Well Ash talked me into this one! It was certainly a toughy to do for my first ride back since my accident. But it was great to see all the Disagreeables again, I managed to stay with the pack till Whitedown, then slipped back a bit, but overall I was happy how it went. I was pretty beat by the time I got home, but now I will be able to get out more and will hopefully get get stronger and quicker :?

Well done Tom :) . Tough ride for "the boy" there Phil, bringing him on to be a future ACC champ.

He's riding well at the moment - I reckon the cross-country running has helped. He's got a racing license and the Palace events start on 24th April. I think he might be more of a tester than a racer though.

Can't be long before he's faster than me.
