Home printer query

Postby Amy » Wed Nov 14, 2012 4:21 pm

I really need a printer at home. Any suggestions for a decent, reliable and reasonably priced one? Doesn't have to be too fancy - just so long as it doesn't dry up and clog up terminally if I don't use it for awhile

Being sad and middle-aged, I have a Which? subscription so go by their reviews. But first:
1. How much do you want to spend?
2. Do you want to print photos?
3. Do you want an built in scanner/copier?
4. Do you want to forge banknotes?

1. Hopefully not too much but won't stint if it means it's good quality...
2. Not really.
3. Can live without one but may be useful.
4. Better not say

See e-mail.

We have an older HP Photosmart all in one thing (was a Which? recommendation) and it is reliable. It gets a lot of use (as we subsidise Deb's school through ink and paper). The 6510 at £90 seems to stack up well.

Ta, have done. Problem is when I don't use it much, inkjets tend to dry up and fail to print when I did need it. Of course, I need the printer a bit more at the moment for printing out job specs and the like.

Hi Amy

I've just got the HP Photosmart 6510 and although I haven't used it much the printing and scanning seem to be good so far. Too early to say much about the ink costs etc.
It also does double sided and will compress two A4 pages onto one so you can reduce printing volumes by a factor of 4 for big documents.
Regards

Ta v much. I shall have a look at one of those next time I'm near a computer shop or similar. Funny, there was a bit on the radio this week about the cost of printer ink - apparently, drop for drop, it's more expensive than Dom Perignon*

Printer inks: I have an Epson Photo Stylus. Yes, Manufacturers' inks are usually expensive. But for my model,I buy clone inks at my local PC shop (or online), at less than half the price. It is difficult to see much difference from the kosher type.
