Bottom bracket width advice

Postby Dombo » Mon Dec 17, 2012 4:52 pm

Need a wee bit of advice. My mtb takes a 68-113 Shimano Octalink BB to fit the chainset. In error I bought the 68-118 which has a 5mm longer spindle so the cranks will be 2.5mm further outboard.
Question is, will i be able to compensate enough with the front mech screws to push the cage out further? Hassle to send it back.
Thanks for advice.

The bad news is, the difference in axle length will be almost all on the drive side, so everything will be more like 5mm further out.

The good news is, I need a 68x118 octalink bottom bracket to replace the slightly worn out one on one of my mountainbikes. I could buy a 68x113 and arrange to do a swap with you.

Thanks Grahame. Mine is an ES30, and was only a tenner. Came from Chainreaction and there is a small chip in the plastic sleeve on non-drive side, about the size of top of a fingernail. If you still want to swap and the one you get costs more I'll pay the difference.

ES51 68x113 English Thread ordered from Chainreaction just now. £21.99.

I'll let you know when it arrives.
