Kent Reliability Trials

Postby Maria David » Tue Jan 18, 2005 10:19 am

If you want to get in a few long miles through the hilly Kent countryside, why not try a reliability trial. These are organised bike rides of 30 miles or 65miles (you take your pick). You aim to finish within a particular time span.
It's not really an audax as it's not long enough, and there is no minimum or maximum speed - there's also an absence of mud guards and bar bags !
They started last weekend and will go on until mid-Feb.

Paul Tunnell and I have said we'll do the one on 30th Jan. Would be good to get a little group of Addiscombes along.

I'm thinking of having a go at this but a lot depends on the state of my ankle. Got it well twisted following a fall on the bike. Front wheel just clipped a wet drain cover, only myself to blame. Did it over 4 weeks ago but still can't unclip from my right pedal without using my hand.

If I make it I won't be anywhere up to the pace of either of you two (Maria and Tamar) but I will look out for you.

Just got back from today's Catford CC reliability ride. Unless I missed anyone, there were three others from Addiscombe in attendance; Paul Tunnell, Tamar, & Huw Williams, who all went on the 100k ride. I went on the shorter ride (54k) and was first one back to the HQ. Not because I was fast, just that I was the first to start  .
Should be out on 13th depending on post-Majorca knackeredness.

I finished in about 3hrs 40 (inc tea stop) and the speedo of guy in my group said 18mph avg. Judging from the number of riders in the HQ when I got back I'd guess I was about middling. There were certainly plenty more who came in after me and there was a cut off time of 5hrs I think.

You will be fine. There's so many people out you will almost certainly settle in with a group going your pace.

I'm doing the one on the 13th - proabably the longer ride. Will be a bit harder than Sunday's ride longer ride and it includes Toys Hill.

I was going to the time trial, but I'm not sure I have the legs to do short fast stuff - mind you I don't know if I have the legs to do the long stuff either !

No idea, but guess you could try the event secretary whose details are on the link at start of this topic.
