Tour Series comes to Croydon - Get involved

Postby Phil H » Sun May 03, 2015 10:13 pm

As you may have heard, the Tour Series is coming to Croydon on June 2nd. There will be circuit racing around the centre of town from 5:30pm when the women's race starts. There will also be some demo events during the afternoon.

Croydon Council have asked if we could provide some people - preferably in ACC caps or jerseys - to help run the event. I realise that this is the same day as the Palace race but with well over 300 members, we should be able to cope.

From Adam at the council:
Stewards from Addiscombe would be very much welcomed – including working with our paid stewards to staff crossing pints across the course during the race, helping paid stewards keep pedestrians moving around any pinch points on the circuit and providing information for spectators - crossing points/ loos/nearest station/ race information etc. We will be covering travel expenses and providing a refreshment allowance.

We'll also have a couple of people on the council stand answering questions and handing out flyers. Which we really need to create.

Drop me a mail to secretary@addiscombe.org if you're interested.

I'll be there to watch and help out. Not sure if it's half term. If it is I can be there all day. If not earliest I can be there is 6.00.

For people who want to watch the race on TV, I've received a mail. The main broadcast will be on ITV4 the following day (3rd June) at 10:00pm. Or (the obligatory) catch up on ITVPlayer.

Hi,

A further note on timetabling. I reckon people who can only make it after work will be useful:

1:30 - various events just on North End.
3:00 - road closures begin
4:30 - women on full course for warm-up
5:30 - women's race
7:30 - men's race

Hi Phil

I've just got an email from the 'Head of Volunteering' addressed to Jo! Is that me? It asks me to be there by 5.45 which there is no way I can do. Did you pass on our details?

Just trying to clarify it Jon. I gave her my list which had when people could attend from.

Personally, I think they could learn a thing or two about organising a race from us. But then it is their first go.

I was offered choice of two shifts - 3-6.30pm or 6.00 to 9pm. I chose 3pm as I'm off this week and the meet time is 2.45pm so it sounds like you're on for the 6pm shift, Jo[n] The plan is to find somewhere to relax afterwards and grab some food and drink

No charge, Jo 8) Only I'm going to have to cry off, I've been feeling worse since this morning and I don't think I can stand around for 3 hours with out worrying about having to make it somewhere...

Well done to all those involved. Great racing. Both myself and my son had a good time.

Hopefully the crazy 'barrier jumpers' haven't put them off and they'll return next year!
