Addiscombe Youth - Go Ride

Postby Phil H » Sat Feb 13, 2016 10:11 pm

Just to let you all know - particularly parents - we are launching our own youth training effort on April 10th. Initially we'll be looking at children aged 7 - 12 who can already ride a bike, but they will be learning handling and group riding skills.

We have four members who are qualified and vetted in the British Cycling Go Ride scheme. Some of you may know them - they are Tim Coales, Simon Lythgoe, Keith Gray and Paul Tunnell. Thanks very much to them for taking the time to go through the qualification. We have a club welfare officer - Andrea Howlett - who will be dealing with any concerns that parents or kids have.

Hopefully this is the start of something great. To get youngsters interested in cycling then progressing on to the club runs and racing. There is a gap in our area with Go Ride clubs in Sutton, Bromley, Redhill and up at Herne Hill but nothing in the Croydon area until now.

Once again, thanks to our team of five and to British Cycling for their support in this. We can always use more helpers though - generally or as coaches or welfare officers.

Go Ride went live over the last couple of days and we've pretty much filled all the available slots.
I currently have 2 spare places on the first session 10th April (Sunday 14.30-15.30)

Please email goride@addiscombe.org if you're interested, but be quick.
If we fill the classes - which I'm very confident we will, we'll implement a waiting list.

Regards
Simon

Hi Simon
How are the Go-Ride sessions going? are they still happening?
I used coach the Raiders with other coaches and left "my Raiders coaching duties" because of a change of circumstances about 4 years ago..but I am back to cycling and wondering how the Addi youth go-ride is going? if you need some help, let me know. I still have the BC coaching handbook and Go-Ride handbooks from my coaching course with BC..I think it is important to keep this going to get more fresh blood into the club.
