Hmmm, seems a bit dubious to me. The article says he was using a disc wheel - I thought that for the hour record the rules were "back to basics" i.e. spoked wheels, low profile rims, round tubes etc. I wonder if this will be ratified by the UCI?

And, I wonder if Lance is still planning an hour record attempt?

i remember discussing on here exactly what the uci regs were for the athlete's hour - but can't find it in a search. it was a bit confusing.

i read somewhere that Lance had decided he wasn't going to have a go.

From the UCI site:

"The Hour Record is the greatest distance achieved in one hour on a traditional bicycle ... further defined in the following specifications:
...
Spoked wheels with a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 32 spokes; the spokes may be round, flat or oval provided that none of their cross-sections exceeds 2 mm
...
Shallow, unelongated, non-profiled rims; shallow rims are understood to be rims whose cross-section fits inside a 2.2 cm square... The spokes may be round, flat or oval as long as the width of a cross-section at
any point is no broader than 2 mm in any direction."

"The Best Hour Performance is the greatest distance achieved in one hour on a bicycle conforming to articles 1.3.006 to 1.3.010 [standard track spec]..."

Boardman held both:

Record de l?heure / Hour record
49km441 CHRISTOPHER BOARDMAN (GBR) 27.10.2000 MANCHESTER (GBR)
Meilleure performance dans l?heure / Best hour performance
56km375 CHRISTOPHER BOARDMAN (GBR) 06.09.1996 MANCHESTER (GBR)

so... still confusing!

[quote]A disk wasn't used- that was an error in the article.
