Ride of the Falling leaves

Postby Alan M » Sat Sep 24, 2005 6:10 pm

Does anyone feel like doing this sunday 2 October?

The web address is
http://www.wallygimber.freeserve.co.uk/ and you click on the rider to register. It could be fun if we get a good Addiscombe group out and it will advertise the club to a great many people in SE London.

RIDE OF THE FALLING LEAVES
Are you ready for the Ride of the Falling Leaves...? Co-organised with Mosquito Bikes and fast becoming a popular classic, the ride is on again this year, on Sunday 2nd October starting from Herne Hill Velodrome (the start will be staggered so you can start any time between 9am and 10am). We've spoken to Peter Cattermole who is taking bookings for the re-opened track, and agreed that we really must start there, as it lends so much both to the ride and to the sport. Two rides will be fully signposted one 120km (75 miles) the other 80km (50 miles). Both will be quite testing routes. Certificates, pasta, food and drink for all participants - but we are going to try to squeeze in to the Dulwich Sports Club for the finish, which is the velodrome's southerly neighbour and has a splendid club house. Click on the rider to the left to register for the ride; click on the road and leaves for a preview of the route (available from September); click on the branches to download sponsorship forms in Word or PDF format. The last is completely optional, but if it's something you are keen on, all RotFL proceeds go to The Lavender Trust

I am interested but have to consult with a greater power to find out if I am free to attend.

Falling leaves

Have just registered for the longer ride (75 miles). Not been out much of late so better get a quick training ragime (cant even spell it let alone do it) on the go before Sunday - get a good hilly ride in in the week if poss then the CR to keep the ol' legs loose as they say. Be good if a few of us could make it.

Did this ride last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. The route does take detours to take in the hills, although they do take pity on you a bit and instead of climbing up the last bit of Toys Hill you turn off left.

Would definately do it again but have very foolishly put my name down for another ride in Wales and am already regretting it as I'll be well out of my league.

Sounds like fun before it gets too cold and wet. Like Conor, I shall need to consult a higher power - presumably, though, a different one!

I'll be up for this one too!

I have already consulted the "higher power" and she said it was OK. (she almost seems too keen to get rid of me  ).

What Route would be aiming for just so i know what to put on the entry form. Full Addiscombe kit required?.

As what I may regret as a moment of madness, especially regarding my current (or lack of) fitness I've signed up for the longer 75 as opposed to the shorter 50 mile ride. An extra 25 miles cant be that bad or can it?........
And I shall be riding resplendant in full Addiscome kit.

This looks promising. At least 6 and seemingly for the 75 miles. :P I did the Tour of Kent a couple of weeks ago which was 77 miles and took me 4-20. :? No female cyclists yet?? Hopefully we can wear the addiscombe 'clobber' and spot each other. 8) Since it is a staggered start maybe we could synchronise for around 9.30 and stay together for as long as it makes sense :?: Any more takers - it costs only £12 and includes food and organisation :D

Best wishes

For anyone else thinking of giving it a go it seems you dont really have to commit to either ride, if you registar for the 50 but still feel a bit sprightly just carry on for the longer ride if the other way round and feel a bit cream crackered just turn off for the shorter route.

I will be doing this ride.

The plan is to do the longer distance - however my knee has been playing up, so I will make my choice nearer the time.

From what I've seen of the map it looks like it's the back end of the Kent section that will have the tasty climbs - just when your legs are beginning to feel the miles !

Have done the (long) ride a couple of times and it's a beauty. Less hard but better views than TOSH.

Right, that's me down for 75 miles in ACC kit. Still a bit of consultation to be done with higher powers, but I should be at Herne Hill at about 9.15 on Sunday - for a 9.30 start.
