Help, I cannot see the light!!!!

Having just moved to East Grinstead, training at night is my only real option at the moment.

Can anyone recommend some good lights that are reasonably priced which are not only good for being seen, but also allow you to see where you are going.

I've had a Vistalite system for two or three years now and have only ever had to buy a new lamp so can recommend them. My battery runs for about two hours with a 5W lamp, which is good enough for south London with its street lighting. You may want a higher wattage, which will reduce charge time, if you're out in the pitch black of the country.

Having trouble finding a Vistalite system. Are the Cateye series anygood. If so what would be the one to go for? I have done a bit of research and Electron sound rubbish.

Never mind Cateye, what you really need is a cat, coz they can see in the dark. Basket on your handlebars, cat in the basket pointing out the potholes and obstacles. Sorted.

All the front lights I buy seem to fall apart. I had a dual beam Smart system which rattled around until the bracket fell apart. Now I have two 9 LED Electron lights which are currently held on by zip ties since those brackets fell apart too. They're OK for commuting on lit roads but no good for dark roads though. So that's two you can cross off your list of potentials.

Electron make a great twin 5w 10w set up thats around fifty quid.
I used it all last winter on my commute and it was sound.
The battery is bottle shaped and gives nearly 2 hours burn time with both lights. single 5w is fine around street lights and that probably gives nearer 4 hours.

lumicycle.com deserves a look. These have been the standard mountain bikes lights for a few years now. OK, the Halide system might be a bit excessive but the NiMH or Li-Ion are more reasonable and you get a good choice of lamp to suit your riding.
