Did anyone else see this in yesterday's Grauniad?

If so, did anyone recognise themselves? Or spot the thinly-veiled reference to Coulsdon as a 'seemingly respectable suburb'?

Hmmm - is it just me or does it seem rather odd that given the article is all about impotence caused by being in the saddle, tis odd that it was written by someone called Seaton...

Then again - maybe not

mmmm....I think that was Matt Seaton, cat 1(?) racer, author of The Escape Artist and creator of The Ride of the Falling Leaves.

For a much more annoying Guardian article read this http://www.guardian.co.uk/sparkthedebat ... 48,00.html (though I'm sure it was designed to provoke exactly my reaction to it).

Also read http://www.guardian.co.uk/otherlives/st ... 99,00.html

'The escape artist' is an excellent book and Seaton's a pretty decent Road Racer. Don't shoot the messenger - this is old news guys. Seaton's obviously injecting some levity into what is perhaps a serious issue. I thought the rib poking at us 'lycra types on bike's was spot on.

"The Escape Artist" - one cycling book that I really must get round to reading - I've heard it contains loads of references to all the cycling hang outs in South London, including races at Crystal Palace, club runs round Kent, and riding round at Herne Hill velodrome.

He's a good rider, and helps out alot with coaching etc at the Velodrome.
Like Toks says, he's just trying to be light-hearted about a serious subject.

He's one of your own is Matt, been through quite a bit in his life, come out the other side and is level headed. If he pokes fun in any way at cyclists, it's because he is one and speaks from 'inside' the sport.

I bought the book when I was injured and it's a damn fine read. Can bring it to club night one evening if anyone wants to borrow it. I still think Paul Kimmage's book is better though, if anyone wants to borrow that.
