wet sunday

Well how was the ride to Brighton and back? It looked very wet and I am not sure that I would have gone for a ride of that distance in those conditions even if I was available. As it was, I missed the Saturday ride due to sailing duty but I was booked for a race training session with John Leitch linked to the Surrey league. I set off from Sanderstead with bike in car for a 12 pm meet at Bookham. 35 minutes later I hadn't passed CS due to the residual effects of the vetrans car event, mostly clapped out at the side of the road. Shortly after the the turn off to Merstham the road was engulfed in smoke as I passed a steam driven car in full puff!

Well I joined the budding racers in time for a 2 hour work out. This was mostly 'through and off' practise around the lanes and I quickly found that my Monty instilled discipline had paid dividends by comparison with the somewhat chaotic anticts of some of the other riders. Anyway, we got it together and enjoyed a good workout that was never too strenuous but good fun with a fairly mixed ability group.

The plan is to do more sessions on Sundays over the next few months and to gradually build confidence and racing skill, so maybe I'll feel OK to have a go at a real race next season.

All this fun is fairly informal and the session costs £3 and we meet again in 2 weeks I think and I doubt that it would be too late to add to the list if you're interested.

See you all Saturday

Hey, sounds like good training...I'm interested.
At the moment I'm still just trying to get used to the CR on sat...then recover...it seems to wipe me out for the weekend! But I'd def like to learn some of the skills needed for racing...... thanks for the push Toks :D
