Good Friday @ Herne Hill

Postby huw williams » Mon Apr 03, 2006 9:22 am

Press release from the BC website below.

Looks like being a great meeting this year. For any members who heven't been in the past, this is highly reccomended. There's normally a big gang of ACCers riding up and hanging around outside one of the beer stalls.

When well known road star Malcolm Elliott of Sheffield heard that Plowman Craven team mate Tony Gibb was riding at the Good Friday International Track open, he welcomed the opportunity to appear in the tough road man's race, the 10 Minute Roadmans Pursuit. While Tony Gibb has been racing and winning at home, Malcolm Elliott has been training in Majorca. The full field is Bradley Wiggins, Luke Roberts, Tony Gibb and Malcolm Elliott, none of whom have entered into this race lightly.

Bradley Wiggins - World Champion & multi-Olympic medalist
Tony Gibb - World Track medalist & top national road man
Malcolm Elliott - Stage winner of the Tour de France, Tour of Spain & many other hi-profile victories
Luke Roberts - World & Olympic Champion

For the 10 minute Pursuit, each rider starts at a different station around the outdoor velodrome at Herne Hill and then it's a simple matter of pursuing the rider in front of you! With a huge crowd expected, you can expect plenty of noise and atmosphere as the crowd choose their favourite. The gates open at 10 am with Sprint preliminaries starting at 11.

The main meeting starts at 1 pm and is scheduled to finish about 6 pm. Admission is £6 for children, £12 for adults and a Super Saver Family Ticket is only £30.

And rumour has it that our very own track secretary will be at the Good Friday meeting on the track in the supporting races.

I had also heard this rumour but was trying to encourage members to come and watch, not drive them away :-)

I would have thought the potential for carnage can only be positive from the spectators point of view

Isn't that why so many people watch motor racing :?:
