Check out this link for what looks like an excellent 50 or 85 mile route. I was the only ACC member to take part in their reliability ride in February and it was a brilliant event, well organised with good signs and a very good turn out. As you will see the course begins at Cobham which is ridable but I would advise using a car as it wil be a tiring day, particularly if you do the full course. It would be good to get an ACC bunch together for this attractive ride which has a series of tough climbs (including Combe Bottom) and undulating, rolling countryside.

I believe it will be OK to enter on the line but I would advise sending them a cheque for my £4 to secure your place.

Hope to see you there.

That looks good Alan.
It was so wet today you could have sailed anywhere- never mind the lake.

In fact there was so little wind that I neither sailed or cycled - I think that you were brave to go out in it - I have taken a little rest today. Yes the ride will be good and a reasonable test for some of the more serious events to come.

I am answering this myself to keep it near the top in the hope that some of you will give it a go - The ride will be good and the field sufficiently large to cater for most speeds. The route is very pituresque and there is a good challenge for the run up to the serious rides to which many of us have foolishly committed ourselves.

Any takers?

I'm hoping to do this one. Being a senior citizen though, and only having done a couple of short rides, since the Autumn Epic at the backend of last year, my aim will be to actually finish the ride and enjoy the scenary.

By the way Tama, if you read this, you mentioned in your article on the Autumn Epic how calm and untroubled I looked. My secret was that, having gone round the route the day before in the car, I knew axactly what lay in store for us. I had therefore put myself in a state of meditation so that I was no longer "in this World but another" and in this way could face the horrors to come in the real World.

Thanks Sean, that's very helpful.

John, don't worry about your advanced years. The SWRCC seems to have quite an older aged membership which will make you feel one of the pack. That's the good news - the bad news is that some of them are incredibly fit and cycle longish distances 3 or 4 times a week and participate in races in the league of cycling vetrans.

Cheers

SWRC ride

Postby Paul on the Pearson » Tue Apr 25, 2006 9:36 pm

Looks like a good event. I think I'll probably sign up for the shorter ride, 90 miles at a decent pace is probably a bit much for me at the moment as 1 - I'll be riding to the start and 2 - I just aint fit enough yet!

Probably a wise plan Paul. If you decide that you need a ride back on the day let me know but I'll probably do the longer ride so don't eat all the cake!

I will be doing this one - most probably the longer distance.
I'm entering in advance as I heard they limit the numbers to around 200. Geraldine and a few other ladies are doing it too.

Alan, I fancy doing the 90mile ride. Can you take a third person? If not I have an MPV and probably could squeaze in five people plus bikes (if there are any more takers).

Phil

I think that I could take 3 bikes but not 3 people unless we put bike on a rack and I don't think that is a good idea, particularly with Sean's condor which I presume is carbon frame

Maria,

I think that is probably wise and I guess you just need to email the organiser to reserve a place and its not to late to send a cheque which will save a pound.

No doubt Geraldine will be on top for fresh from Mallorcan hills.

Sean

Shall I collect you from E Croydon at about or just before 8? The others can see each other's responses on the web and can no doubt link up as convenient.

Cheers

My cheque also went in the post this morning (I'll do the shorter '50' route).

I'll be driving there and have space for 1 plus bike if needed. Let me know if you want a lift (0779 157 8262 or CR). Leaving from Selsdon, but can pick up in Croydon. Not looked at a map yet but as I live near Alan I guess I'll be leaving at about 7:45ish

Had posted along these lines before but it must have vanished in to the black hole mentioned in the other post.

Andrew.
