Worthing and Back

Postby David Lombari » Mon Apr 24, 2006 9:42 am

There are no bad days when you?re on your bike but Saturday was a particularly good one. Started off a bit chilly but as soon as the sun started to do it?s bit the arm/knee warmers came off and the summer was here! Went through some lovely countryside and quintessentially English villages on the way down (if fact, one of the villages was so nice, I decided to puncture to spend more time there).

A bite to eat at the cafe on the beach and, though initially it was a bit chilly again, it was back over rolling hills in glorious warm sunshine. The seven of us kept together for most of the day, though it got real tough to hold Paul T?s wheel in the home straight.

Got home with 117 miles on the clock in 6.5 hours, 18.5 mph average.

Thanks to Paul and everyone else who made it such a good ride.

David

ps?Hope the blonde lady from Walton On Thames managed to meet up with another group or found the café ok.

pps?On my way back I went past Selhurst Park at chucking out time. As I was threading my way through the crowd a group of 5 blokes walked down the road towards me but rather than the usual ?jokes? I was expecting, they started clapping me and shouting ?Tour De France? at me in, I beleive, genuine respect. Through the achievements of Geoff Thomas, at least one set of football supporters appreciate cycling as a great sport!

From Paul:

Had another great ride on Sat. Weather could have been slightly warmer to
start, but otherwise really good.

Highlights include

* No big hills
* Well balanced group
* Getting burnt eating lunch at the beach cafe (yes the sun was
really strong)
* Speeding up on the way home with a tail wind from Gatwick Airport
(25mph?)
* Overall average of 17.8mph for my 110 miles
* The girls in the Megane Cabriolet on the A23 from Purley!!!!

Anyone fancy Eastbourne next Saturday????

Yeah, those girls and the kids in the Rover made it a good laugh coming through Coulsden, Purley and Croydon.....and not an egg in sight!

Oh, and I got a bit of a tan as well. A good acclimatisation day for Majorca.

Not sure yet what I'm up to on Saturday but Eastbourne sounds good.

Yeah, I went to watch Palace a couple of years ago and I wasn't sure how to get there. Someone advised me to just "follow the crowds".....ended up in Sainsbury's!!

Hi all,

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the Worthing run. As usual Paul picked some great roads to travel on - very scenic and quiet.. To top it all we had some great weather - got the tan lines to prove it !
I am up for Eastbourne - any more takers ?

I might be persuaded to do Eastbourne and back this Saturday if people are so minded.
