Did any Addiscombe race at the Palace last night?
If so, how did you guys get on?

Cheers
Mike

Well done Tim.

Was there only one ACC-er there last night?

Ajay had to change his mind about Hillingdon so as I don't know the way I decided to go to Palace instead. I wasn't looking forward to that bastard climb and racing with 3rd cats, but at least the ride home would be much shorter. Apart from Tim there were Richard, Ajay George and myself from ACC, plus Tim's mate who's just applied his membership.

I managed to stay with the bunch for about six laps then the climb got the better of my legs and it was a solitary next couple of laps, till George caught up and persuaded me to work with him to try and get back onto the bunch. He dragged me for a couple of laps till I had caught my breath again and we then worked together, he was pretty strong and his "no brakes" riding style ensured we caught up quite a few riders who had been dropped later on, but we never caught on the bunch (a few more laps and we probably would've been lapped). George edged me on the sprint, and I think Richard was only 10 yards behind Tim.

fantastic. Well done!!

It sounds like such a hard race for most 4th cats unless you are super fit.
From my experience, some riders can stay with the bunch for a couple of laps and then get dropped on the hill. After that it's a war of attrition as riders keep getting shelled out. I think it's a very hard race for 1st time racers. I think it would be better if they split the 4th and 3rd cats up. Maybe have an E123 and then a 4th category

No way, i think the 3/4 cat race is the best option. The jump from 4th to 3rd isn't quite as significant as 3rd to 2nd. Everyone knows the score at Palace! If you're a brand new fourth cat its gonna be very very tough indeed!

Even as someone who's considered ok on hills there's no way I'd have risked C.P as a fourth cat...I know a couple of 4ths who raced the whole season (16 weeks) at Palace last year and didn't manage a bunch finish once. I got dropped the first time and I hope Tim doesn't mind me mentioning it took him about five attempts to finish with the pack last year. Infact, some 2nd cats wouldn't even dare go near the place- so hats off to our boys for having a go...

George it'll be nice to hear your take on the race on tuesday night. I think for people who are thinking about racing its great to hear the 'new to' or 'I've come back to' racing guys viewpoint.

Well that's reassuring Toks. Hopefully I'll fare better at Hillingdon or Eastway.
