ACC 25 TT Version 1.1

Postby Alan M » Tue May 02, 2006 1:32 pm

Well with the loss of the thread I will start another!

Well, it was very well organised and I found it easily - I had been hoping that I would get lost! I may be picky, but for my first 25 I would have liked it warmer, with fewer roundabouts - not your fault Maria as I am eternally grateful that you enabled me to experience an hour and 8 minutes of hell at a time when most sane people on a Sunday morning are safely tucked up in bed!

About that time, I do feel that I could have done better and I am sorry my photo shows me smiling - clearly slacking at that point. I must admit losing the plot at a couple of points - I think that I was a bit bored and may be better suited to 10s rather than 25s.

I was intrigued by the funny fast guys with the noisy wheels and pointy hats - they all seemed to blast past me in nanosecond, falter somewhat on the hills and then off and off into the distance. Nobody said hello or even smiled - one did spit - so I take it that the TT etiquette is not too demanding on communication skills - am I missing the point?

Anyway, I have said that this is my year to try it all and I have put a mark in the sand and even if I never do another 25, I will be content that I hit my peak PBd and made my debut at the excellent ACC 25TT

A huge vote of thanks to Maria and the many others that helped.

Well done Alan, a 1:08 for a 1st 25 is very impressive.

Looking at the results on the CTT website you were well up the ACC list.

I`m glad you found it easy Alan! If it hadn`t been my good fortune of bumping into Maria and Jon i don`t know where i would have ended up. I must say a big thankyou to Jon Hemming for coming to my rescue and lending me his wheel release as i had managed to loose the nut off mine. As for the the race i jusst couldn`t get the legs going. Oh well plenty of room for improvement! Sorry i coudn`t stay after, but had to get back to take my girlfreinds Nan out who had made the dizzy heights of 90.

Thanks for re-starting the thread Alan. Nice pics Aodan.

The ACC 25 ran smoothly and seemed to be well appreciated by the riders. The weather could have been warmer, but at least it stayed dry during the race. People were heartened to return to the race HQ and find hot drinks, a generous variety of cakes, and a warm atmosphere care of the Addiscombe folks.

Some riders were very happy to have taken part :

"Thanks for putting on a well run event at the weekend, felt safe on every part of the course. Had to stop at three roundabouts because of congestion which would reflect in my frustration and bad time but the cakes and tea and the warm Addiscombe atmosphere dispelled all my doom and gloom afterwards.
Thanks again.
Paul Callinan
President London Dynamo"

Huge thanks to all the marshalls and helpers who got up early and braved the cold to make this a successful event. Special thanks to Jon Hemming for getting up at stupid o'clock in the morning to put out the signs, rescuing Jon Avery from a possible dns, being time keeper's assistant, and then still going on to race later that day. Thanks also to Alex P and Phil Nash for projecting an eletcronic results board onto the screen for all to see - it looked very professional. Also to good old Keith Knight who braved the rain later on, to take down the course signs.

As for events on the road - a good field of 112 riders signed up for the race, which was won by Laurence Harding (Agiskoviner) in 52mins 35s. Another rider of equally strong pedigree, Richard Prebble (Pinarello RT) finished 2nd in 53:43. The team prize, which included 3rd placed Mike Coyle, was won by VC Etoile.
The women's and Vets (on standard) competitions were won by local favourites Deborah Percival (34th Nomads) and Harry Featherstone (Eastbourne Rovers CC) respectively.

Addiscombe CC produced one winner on the day - Doug Shaw won a pair of knee warmers in the raffle. (He narrowly missed out on the star prize bottle of Veuve Cliquot !)

Other ACC riders in contention were :

Rob Royle-Evatt 59:34 (22nd)
Richard Viney 1:00:47 (36th)
Mark McLaughlin 1:02:50 (46th)
Andrew Carter 1:03:46 (50th)
Ben Jones 1:04:22 (57th)
Alan Malarkey 1:08:16 (74th)
Jon Avery 1:13:16 (85th)
Amy Robinson 1:16:08 (89th)
Mike Ingram 1:17:37 (91st)
Doug Shaw 1:17:46 (92nd)

There were some good performances put in by our 2nd claimers, mainly in the TSN-Sportful team :
Jim Burdett 58:37 (16th)
Chris Scarlett 1:03:51 (51st)
Lisa Scarlett 1:14:11 (87th)

Then we all left HQ for brunch at a local cafe - a good morning out.

Good to see Richard Prebble is still riding.

Would it be considered name-dropping to mention that he and I were both apprentice engineers together at Dowty in Cheltenham from 1985 to 1989?
