Wheels needed

I've just noticed a small crack in my rims and am now faced with the need to get some replacement wheels relatively soon - certainly before I do my first sportive of the year in June.

Is anyone upgrading their current wheels, or do they have any they don't like/use, or know of anyone who has some half-decent wheels to sell?

I'm happy to pay a reasonable sum, but am exploring this route because much as I'd like some sexy new wheels, I seem to be haemorrhaging the folding stuff as it is. But then, who isn't?

Any suggestions gratefully received - cheers.

I'm afraid I don't have any spare wheels...but if you wanted new ones you could get a pair of Mavic Aksium (v strong, ok weight, good reviews) for £116 at Ribbles...and you could get them on cheque spread for interest free monthly payment...just a thought!

I've got a couple of sets of wheels I'm thinking of selling. Both campag hubs.

One is a handbuilt set of Open Pro (CD I think) Rims on Mirage hubs. About 1.5 years old but only fitted to my training bike. I would guess somewhere between 1,000 to 1,500 miles use. Good nick but the rear wheel needs truing.

The other is a set of Campag Eurus wheels. About 2 - 2.5 years old. Were my race wheels and only ever been used in good conditions and for the last year they have been my spare set for TTs and I think I may have used each wheel once during that period.

Depending on what your existing wheels are, you could just get a bike shop to replace the rim like for like onto your hub and spokes. Easy job for any wheelbuilder if they're normal handbuilt wheels, may not be so easy if they're factory built wheels.

For the cheap wheeljig, you can do what I did for my first few goes of home wheel (re)building (following Marco's recipe). Use your frame or forks and 2 pencils held in place with blutac to replicate a wheeljig.
