Wanted : 2 pushers for next week

Postby Maria David » Wed Jun 21, 2006 5:34 pm

D'you want to be involved in the time trial but not sure about riding ?
For the Jack and Jill event we will need 2 pushers to set the riders off.

What is a pusher ?
Basically (in case you don't know) a pusher is the person who holds the riders on their bikes 1 minute before they set off and then bang on their start time they push the rider forward.

You don't need to be massively strong - just able to hold the bike steady - when you push, the rider sets off using their momentum as well.

It's not difficult, and you get to see a bit of what time trialling is about - at least from the starter's point of view.
And on that course, you will also get to see the riders pass by as they approach the finish, so you see how the race unfolds.

We will need 2 of these for the 8 or 9 pairs. There will also be some individuals riding.

If you could help out that would be great. Afterwards there will be a prize presentation to the top 3 pairs, and a trip to the local Pizza Express.
PM me or reply here if you're willing and able.

Cheers !

Any idea on the finish time if "pushing off" as I have a 03:30 start for work the next day.

Thanks alot for volunteering guys.

Doug, I'll put you down - I'm sure you'll do a Herculean job !

John,

3.30am to go to work - that's called being very keen !
I am predicting you'd finish pushing off at around five past 8 at the latest, on the basis of pushing off a maximum of 9 pairs, each at 2 minute intervals, plus up to 15 individuals, each at 1 minute intervals. (Note the first riders may not necessarily start bang on 7.30pm.)
Let me know if you are ok to do it.

Maria,

Not a question of being keen. I'm on early shift that week. It does have it's compensations though. The cycle ride into Westminster at that time in the morning is great. Very little traffic around. Only downside is that it is bitterly cold in winter!!

OK to help out but would appreciate details of location.

Thanks John - will post full joining instructions to those involved in the next few days, though for your information it's just off the A24 near Dorking.

Hi Maria,

Quite prepared to push off again as this week. I also may have an extra pair of hands with me so if you need a marshal or a runner we can help with that as well.

Thanks for your help Phil - We would probably need a marshall on each of the roundabouts.

At the tt this week someone went wrong on the first roundabout and that put paid to their race.
There are likely to be new tt-ists again next week, so a pointer would be useful.
We can liaise with Tim Coales (who is the organiser).
