Hillingdon Tommorow Night (1/8/06)

Postby -Adam- » Mon Jul 31, 2006 5:24 pm

So im all set for my first race...

Even got the green light to leave work at 4 so i get there on time!!!

Just wondered who will be there tommorow, as i think i may need the moral support. And being pointed in the rigth direction to pay and register etc would be helpful!

Also, just wondered if anyone has any advice which would be helpful. Like what i need to bring with me etc.

I won't be there tomorrow but there will usually be someone around.

It's all fairly obvious anyway, signing on etc is in the hut by the gate. The most difficult thing is finding Springfield Lane (?correct road name) in the first place.

In my experience the thing that most people commonly forget if they're driving to an event is their shoes so make sure you pack them (oh and the bike of course  )

Best of luck for tomorrow Adam. Once you get there you'll find all the cyclists gravitating towards the signing on spot so its fairly straight forward: pay with or without licence, sign on under 4th cat and put on your number...Its totally understandable that you maybe a little nervous but don't worry about it. I think I went to the toilet 3 or 4 times before my first race.

Getting their early will help the nerves and of it means you'll be able to ride around the circuit a couple of times just to get the feel of it. Once the race is under way try not to tense up, hold your line and just follow the wheels for at least the first few laps. Always check you position in the bunch just to make sure your not right at the back...One bottle of drink should suffice if you've kept well hydrated.

Have a good one, look forward to reading your first race report tomorrow...Try posting in the Racing Forum in the future because there's less chance of your thread being swallowed up by lots of others before some of the relevant people have read it. Good LUck :D

<Fires_up_excusatron2000>

I won't be there because:

a - I don't have my bike with me
b - I haven't recovered from the cold I picked up last Wednesday
c - I'm saving myself for the Beastway team race tomorrow night
d - I've got some creative work to do for tomorrow's Beastway team race

Apologies to those who were holding their breath (Toks, etc)

Does that involve blu-tac? Cos I was going to buy some at lunchtime/

If you could bring blu-tac that would be great. One less thing that I have to remember.

I'm making a couple of "Beastway RIP" gravestones. One for the BMX track and one for beside the new "Shallow grave" section of singletrack.

hey, good luck Adam!!!
I'm sure you'll be fine.
You've got a good sprint so I wouldn't mind betting that you may win tonight.
Use the first few laps to get used to the line and the speed .

MattD is on old head on......errrrr.....old shoulders, so he'll be able to guide you through the signing on etc. Ajay should be there as well.

Stay near the front with 2 laps to go and you'll be in with a good chance.
Let us know how you get on.

Good Luck!!! :)

Are you coming as the grim reaper then Grahame - if you do would you mind putting that scythe to good use on those grassy bits?

I don't think I have "quite" the right physique to be the grim reaper.
