Godfrey's Club Run - One Of Those Days.

Took the old fixie out today so went in the 17s. Was quite a big group and included a few new(er) riders. Was going resonably well while I was at or near the front but following rotations, and towards the back I noticed it was becoming a bit uneven (surge and brake).

On the drags up by Partridge some legs were obviously getting tired and the odd gap was opening. Just past the Partridge turn we got one of Surrey's greater spotted w@****s behind us who kept blasting his horn. This led to a bit of panic braking up front and a sudden stop. I braked but was left a bit off balance and with my feet in odd positions. Avoiding Mark in front, my front wheel slipped off the road surface and I went down, unfortunately Nigel also couldn't slow / avoid in time and went over my ankle. Fortunately being a considerate chap he lifted his front wheel and unweighted his rear as much as possible, so I only had a small graze on my ankle bone. No real harm done.

Leaving the cafe I was a bit late so started windmilling like a loon to catch up with the main group. After passing a few riders I hit a bump which launched my tool bottle off the bike and in to the grass verge. :? Turned round and retraced to pick it up, with the group clearing off further and the riders I'd passed coming back past me :( .

Back to peddling like a nutter to try and catch up  . Was joined in my pursuit by Monty who was this weeks "still in the k when everyone buggers off" star. Working hard with the Cap we latched on just before the first hill. Thankfully the rest of the ride back to Coulsdon was "normal", for me, although Monty had a small bump at another heavy braking moment with someone knocking him which caused a rear spoke to go  . Fortunately he limped back to CSS for Alex to give him a lift home. I hope it's only spoke replacement needed.

Fingers crossed for a more uneventful ride next week. :)
