Addiscombe Chain Gang

With all the talk about mid week rides I think it is time we organised a regular club chaingang. I was also thinking that this would be good for current racers and wanna be racers as we could organise this like a handicap.

To do a Chaingang you need to have a reasonably well lit route, you also need quite good lights. So I have spoken to a few people and they reckon that the following route may be good.

The ride would start in the centre of Bletchingly on the A25. This is reasonably easy to get to from Coulsdon area and for me. We will ride along the A25 into Redhill and then take the A23 down towards Crawley. Then we can cycle up to the roundabout which you would almost hit when coming onto the dual carriageway on the club run and then turn around and come back again.

I reckon it will take around an hour to an hour and a half. Now I was thinking about doing this on Tuesday evenings and Thursday evenings, but maybe it is best to start with just one night a week. So if it is not raining tomorrow then we will do the first one, if raining then we will see what the weather is like on Thursday.

Due to work and the like we will start at 7.30pm. This should give people who work in town enough time to come home and get ready.

So if you want some mid week training then this would be suitable for those that can ride well in the 19mph group and in the training group. If we get a mix of both groups coming it will be great as we can set the 19mph group off first and the training group can go a few minutes later and the idea is whoever can get to Bletchingly first.

If the faster group catches the slower group then they sit on and get a tow back which is fine.

So 7.30pm weather depending Tuesday 5 December outside the pub in the centre of Bletchingly.

The pub is on the A25. It is called the White Hart and is on your right as you go down the hill, it is just before the crossroads- if you go past the Prince Albert then you have gone too far. I might come along on some later dates but i am away on a course ( read company jolly) for a few days.

And yes I did get that weather this morning 45 degree rain, sheeting streams of water on the hills and driving wind!! Lovely!!

Executive decision time, it looks like it is going to be dry but a bit windy, so consider tonights ride on. If it rains a little bit who cares, I am sure you have all got rainjackets so lets just do it. We have to do something to get one over George.

i have a rain jacket, but i allways find them a hinderence, i sweat in them and get just as wet but more uncomfortable...i find the acc long sleeve jersy pretty good because it wiks the moisture to the surface.

what do other people find?
