Club Run 29/4/07

Thought it would be a good idea to get some miles in after the ACC 25 in the morning, and a quick check on the OS map and a pleasant route to Worthing leapt out.
Cometh the day, cometh the day, and checking how many were coming with me - 1. Richard (apples) Appleton had come down for some more punishment, sorry enjoyment, after completing the TDF recce epic last week.
With the promise of a nice sunny day, and some lovely quiet country lanes, we set off. After about 6 miles, my legs turned to jelly, went all light-headed and thought I wasn't going to get much further, let alone all the way to Worthing. Fished out an energy bar, stuffer that down, plus lots of liquid and soon recovered. Over washington Hill at 18's with a tail wind then down the other side

PROOF that my rides are STEADY

Found a beach side cafe at Worthing and ate and drank in the sun (no full english, beer and latte though Sean  )

Head back. Missed the turning to climb over the downs, so went up to Steyning, Partridge Green, Mannings Heath, to Pease Pottage (a long long climb and into the wind). Struggle to keep it at 22 round the Airport, then straight back up A23.
Richard peeled off at Coulsdon having done nearly 100 miles and will certainly have done it by the time he got home. Good on Richard, every time I looked round, I saw his smiling face

I covered 100.1 miles (honestly, exactly that) and riding time 4:58:57, so a shade over 20mph avge. I will soon be fast enough to qualify for the training group on the clubrun :!:

I think it was the hardest ride I've done this year :!:

That's a good old pace I only managed under 19 for 32 miles Broadridge / Croydon. What a headwind!

Was a struggle especially up the long drags.

Average dropped from 22 going out to 20 overall, so about the same pace as you coming back

I won the sprint to the café though, didn't even have to get out of the saddle

I think I errr sort of won the sprint as well, on the basis that Richard stayed behind me all the way back
