Exclusive free preview screening of 'The Flying Scotsman'!

Cycling Plus and ProCycling magazines will be hosting free preview screenings on Sunday 24 June of the new film 'The Flying Scotsman'. Be one of the first to watch this inspirational cycling movie before it goes on general release on 29th June. The film is based on the remarkable true story of the turbulent life of cyclist Graeme Obree. Jonny Lee Miller stars as the inspirational cyclist who built his own bike out of washing machine parts and rode it to gold at the world championships.

'The Flying Scotsman' shows Graeme Obree's fight against the odds to design and build a bike that allowed him to shave off crucial seconds from each lap around the velodrome. But his ingenuity brought him into conflict with the World Cycling Federation who rewrote the rulebooks and went to great lengths to stop him from competing.

With his sheer determination, the support of his wife (Laura Fraser) and the help of his close friend and manager Malky (Billy Boyd), Obree built another bike of radical design that squeezed through the WCF's strict guidelines, and he won the World Pursuit Championship, beating his rival, the Olympic Gold Medal holder Chris Boardman. Obree's pioneering 'Superman Position' remains one of the most defining images in the history of world cycling.

The screenings of 'The Flying Scotsman' are free, but we do ask that you make a donation to the charity MIND http://www.mind.org.uk - The film will be showing at the following cinemas on Sunday 24th June at 10.30am:

London - Odeon Covent Garden
Edinburgh - Odeon Kinnaird Park
Manchester - Odeon Printworks
Southampton - Odeon
Birmingham - Showcase
Bristol - Cineworld

To see this remarkable film for free before it goes on general release, just send an e-mail to flyingscotsman@futurenet.co.uk stating which cinema you want to attend, how many tickets you want to reserve and the names of those attending with you. You will then be sent an e-ticket to bring along to the screening.

I was going to go, but 10:30am on a Sunday has ruled it out.

There must have been some serious behind the scenes legal shenanigans going on during the making of this film. The film makers obviously don't want to be sued by the UCI for portraying them as the evil bad guys, hence the "World Cycling Federation" and the diagonal rainbow striped jersey.
